This book held my attention due to the topic, which the author certainly does justice. However, the bombastic style of writing and occasional focus on unnecessary details made it a definite challenge. The conjectured sexuality of Captains and Nobles seems to be purposefully mentioned despite irrelevance. And on occasion it seems to take pages to summarize an event that could have been described in a much briefer manner. However, I am a product of my generation and that may be why the book at times tested my patience. Overall, the history contained is quite interesting and I do recommend the read.
