Book Description

New Issues Poetry & Prose August 1, 2001
Poetry. "Beth Roberts' poems are en route and restless, glimpsing, as they do, what it is the century requires. Such glimpses take hard work with a steadying lens and the willingness to stop abruptly, to implicate oneself in the brief, severe clarity that a lens frames. Throughout her impressive first collection, Roberts' fights to keep the fine synaptical snap of perception alive amidst the world's relentless desire for a long attenuating history" - Lia Purpura.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Robert’s faith in the renovating powers of lyric tradition is as anxious as it is necessary." -- Mark Levine

"The panorama, depicted in several poems as coming from the inside of an automobile looking out, is dazzling, blurred ... cartoon-ish." -- Jacket #19-October 2002 Book Review by L.S. Klatt for Beth Roberts, Brief Moral History in Blue

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, August 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Brief Moral History in Blue (New Issues Poetry & Prose) (Paperback)
The poems are often very moving and can startle me into a new perspective. In all books of poetry worth re-reading over and over, each poem here has it's own personality and can be dipped into in many moods. I liked this book very much. p.s. the cover art is also gorgeous.
