I caught Sheila Nicholls at the Living Room in NYC last weekend, and bought this CD immediately. She has a beautiful voice, and melodies that stick in your head the moment you hear them. She has a languid sound reminiscent of Tori Amos, and great lyrics and melodies like Ani Difranco. I highly recommend checking this CD out.

If you have stumbled across this cd, consider yourself lucky. I saw Nicholls perform at a teeny tiny venue and was blown away. Her CD added to my awe. She has a beautiful voice and sings from the heart. And she is really out doing it for herself - so support her.

This CD is excellent. Sheila has a very powerful and beautiful voice. Also, I think that Elevator is one of the most beautiful and amazing songs I've ever heard. It has a way of putting me through almost every emotion when hearing it (Elevator). The CD also has an overlying theme of corruption in our society but with hopeful undertones. I highly recommend this disc! It's worth all the money just for Elevator!

Sheila Nicholls voice is a nice shock to the system! It breaks out of the usual moulds that female vocalists have slotted in to. She is one of these rare singers that come along not very often and manage to do something entirely orignal. The emotion she puts in to her songs is real. 'Fallen For You' is her trump card. A fantastic song nestling in a fantastic album. If you've never heard the gal - listen to her now! Raised in Essex, UK, living in the States, her popularity is spreading across the world.......She's gonna be BIG!

No one I know likes this record but I do. People generally think this woman is just a little too precious for them and in a way I can see their point. However this record has some very tasty and well thought out hooks that make it well worth the $. Lyrically, it's a little too "you go girl" for me and to compare her to someone like Kristen Hersh is a stretch at best but don't let that get in the way of this fully enjoyable record. There is a big "Sundays" vibe here with piano taking the place of those HUGE textural guitars.

This is an amazing first work by an extremely talented musician. She has insightful and clever lyrics, and sings them with a voice that just nails the emotion she is seeking to capture. I know the timing of a new CD in your life has a lot of impact on your impression... But this is easily one of my favorite CDs by anyone ever - and I listen to an awful lot of music.
There are a couple of songs that grab you early, like Fallen For You. But if you really want to give it a try, give the CD a few listens. It will get inside you and stay in your CD player for a long time.

I really enjoy this cd. I bought it two years ago and am still finding new things I enjoy about it. Some of the songs will have to grow on you, but once you get bored of the songs you like, and start listening to these other ones, and fully comprehend her meaning, you'll really appreciate the time and energy put into the music. I purchased this CD on the strength of the track "Fallen for You" which is included on the High Fidelity soundtrack. While I still enjoy that track, the rest of the album is a real disappointment. Yes, she is a talented pianist and yes, she has a very pleasant voice but the lyrics appear as random stories and really don't go anywhere (as does the music). If you really enjoy "Fallen For You" and are hoping the rest of the album is similar material, you'll be disappointed as well.

I have hoped that the CD would "grow on me" and have given it several listenings but unfortunately this hasn't happened.

One star for the "Fallen For You" track and the other for her talent but this just isn't my bag.

This is a perfect CD for anyone who appreciates talent and insight.

A friend moved to Boulder from New York, and brought with her the most beautiful CD I've ever heard. I can't get enough of Sheila Nicholls, so melodic and true. You'll really know what she's singing about, it'll move you to hear her put it into words.
