Cohen-Posey has packed this book and disc with a great deal of useful information which, although very helpful to a professional, is not at all helpful to my clients. This review is from: Brief Therapy Client Handouts (Paperback)
In my many years of practice I've never seen anything to compare with this book. It contains extremely well-researched information in a form which clients will find easy to read and utilize as a part of therapy.

I was impressed with the visual aids, assessment questionnaires and progress charts to help clients understand their problems and set up programs for change.

The range of problems covered in this book is so comprehensive that I've been able to find at least one helpful handout for each of my clients. I find the disk format especially helpful. I'm able to quickly print exactly what I want, and I can personalize the handouts any way I like. I have found that my clients develop a better understanding of their problems and begin to work on change more quickly when I give them these handouts at the beginning of therapy. I think this is a wonderful resource for both therapist and client!

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish my therapist had this book!, March 10, 2000

I've always been dismayed that few therapists provide "homework" or food for thought in between sessions. The handouts in this book are terrific for helping clients help themselves. Written in simple, readable language, with easy-to-follow charts and exercizes, this is a book that no therapist should be without

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE MOST USEFUL AND USED BOOKS FOR CLIENT EDUCATION, September 26, 2004
By
This review is from: Brief Therapy Client Handouts (Paperback)
In 30 years of psychotherapy practice,I have used handouts from this book more than any other source. Many clients like these handouts because they are short and give an overview of the topic. They are not in depth guides, however. This is one of the few books worth several times its cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful!, December 22, 2005
This review is from: Brief Therapy Client Handouts (Paperback)
This book, which wisely includes a C.D. is great because you can give your client a piece of paper they can really use concerning the chosen treatment and hopeful outcome that was just covered in the session. It is concise and very well written.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Helpful to My Clients, February 27, 2002

Cohen-Posey has packed this book and disc with a great deal of useful information which, although very helpful to a professional, is not at all helpful to my clients. I deal with college students who are reluctant to do yet more "homework". The handouts presented here are so full of information that one senses they might need a several hours just to comprehend the directions for the assignment. Additionally, the layout of the exercises is awful -- not enough white space and attractive lettering to invite someone to dig into the assignment. Sounds very shallow, yet layout design is very important to consider. All in all a good book for very motivated private practice clients ( a rarity!); not practical or useful for traditional-age college students.

4.0 out of 5 stars Needs update from disk to CD-ROM for printing out handouts, May 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Brief Therapy Client Handouts (Paperback)
The book is a wonderful tool to use with a variety of client problems covering nearly every disorder and/or situation the average therapist handles (anxiety, anger management, marriage counseling, family counseling, parenting, depression, e.g.). Beautifully written in easy to understand language that makes sense of complicated theories and/or techniques. Many of my clients have benefitted from the homework handouts that were generated from this book. The only problem is the disk format--when I upgraded my computer system I was no longer to print out the handouts which looked so professional. If you've got a new computer you will not be able to use the disk to modify and print handouts; only photocopies which look unprofessional--which is a shame.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Handy, December 31, 2007
This review is from: Brief Therapy Client Handouts (Paperback)
I like this book. I have passed it around to other clinicials in my office and we have all found at least a few handouts that we like. I especially like the explanation that the book gives for the exercises. I've found it most useful with my pre-teen and teen clients.

The CD was so old my computer wouldnt open it. The handouts are not easily understood by people in early recovery, no visuals for visual learners.

3.0 out of 5 stars another workbook, November 14, 2010

I use many handouts with my clients and there are some in this book that I will copy and use. Overall, I like the format. The author introduces ways in which you can use the information, and has the worksheets printed a s such that they are easy to copy. Some I anticipate using a lot, others don't interest me, but this is how I view most workbooks...not everything works for you or your clients. The floppy that is included is useless since I don't know many people who can use them with their computers. Overall, I am glad to add it to my collection.
