First of all let me say that I ordinarily don't write reviews. However I was so impressed I felt compelled to make an exception in this case. Secondly, I would like to thank the first two reviewers for giving me enough information on this product to make this purchase in confidence.

At the end of last summer the 17.5 HP motor in my 2003 MTD mower completely gave out. I had hoped that this last winter I could find a closeout model somewhat larger than my previous mower as I have a 2 acre yard. However, living in Alaska has it's disadvantages when it comes to hard goods and I never found a suitable replacement for under $2000, $2500 with a bagger. Estimates on rebuilding the 17.5 ran from 400 to 550. And local vendors wanted over 800 for a replacement 17.5 motor, nearly a grand for one similar to this.

Imagine my surprise when I found this 21 HP model for $539 with FREE shipping. I read the first 2 reviews, pulled the old motor to verify the shaft measurements and made the purchase. This was on Friday evening, Wednesday morning I got a call from my wife telling me that my motor had arrived via FEDEX (all the way to Alaska).

It was very well packaged and very complete. One thing that was not mentioned is that the mounting holes were not pretapped I took the motor to a local machinist and had the holes tapped to fit my mounting bolts. An hour of work later (I own an air rachet) and my mower was on the yard for a test run. Imagine plug-and-play motors. It was really that simple.

Thanks again Amazon, and those that reviewed before me.

I purchased this motor to replace an 18.5 HP B&S engine on my Murray riding mower that was run out of oil. This was much lower cost than the "B&S suggested" replacement, but I had no way of knowing for sure that it would fit, the electrical system would match-up, etc. I confirmed that the shaft size and length were OK and the overall motor size looked about right.

I couldn't believe I was buying an engine from Amazon...but it was too good of a deal to pass up. Free shipping with Prime, $300 less than the "suggested" replacement, a more heavy duty design, pressure lube system, oil fiter, etc. I figured that surely I could figure out a way to make it work.

It arrived packaged extremely well....in two days. It bolted right up and the electrical system just plugged in. I don't think it took me more than 2 hours to complete the installation......I couldn't believe it. I added gas and oil and it started right up. It far exceeded my expectations. Thanks, Amazon.

This engine was recommended by a Toro dealer as a suitable replacement for my TimecutterZ 16hp 210000 series Briggs & Stratton engine. It arrived in 4 days (using free shipping) ready to bolt in. Installation was simple, and the only modification required was the removal of the wiring harness which I replaced with the harness from the original engine. It has been run for about 10 hours with no problems.

I bought this engine as a replacement for my Sears Craftsman LT1000 which had a 16.5hp. The only issue was the engine base needed to have mounting bolt threads cut. A skilled neighbor took 10 minutes with a tap and the rest of the install was easy. The engine came with a six pin electrical connector which plugged right into the existing mower harness. The fuel line, starter cable and throttle control hooked up without changes. The output shaft was identical and no driven belt changes were necessary. It appeared as if the original muffler would have worked, but I left the new muffler on this engine. An exhaust deflector was included and everything fit with plenty of space to spare under the hood. The mower is much more enjoyable with the additional horsepower. I would recommend or buy this engine again.

Used this to replace a 17hp B&S engine on a Scotts Lawn Tractor (the lawn tractor was mfg. by John Deere and is same as their Saber series)
Delivery time was better than expected, packaging great (no damage).
Only concern was hooking up wiring and gas line. Did some on-line searching, gave it some logical thinking, hooked things up, filled with oil and it started right up. (pulled the electric starter from old engine to sell so net cost is reduced a little)
Thing I like the most (beyond the additional power) is that it vibrates less (runs smoother) than the original engine. Overall very happy and I didn't need to buy a new tractor.
Buying from Amazon was easy and I felt comfortable in case I had quality issues.

Engine was a replacement for my 20hp that came with my Craftsman LT2000. Worked perfectly with the only modification being the transfer of the muffler from my old engine to the new. Also, for anyone that might not know, the mounting holes are not threaded on the new engine but you simply torque in your old bolts since they are self tapping(you can verify this by looking at your old bolts..the leading edge should be tapered and almost come to a point).
