We just spent a week in London visiting family and stayed at a local hotel. When we were packing we discovered that we needed something quickly to put in our luggage so we could charge cameras, razors, etc. while there. We use Amazon Prime, and this was the best, cheapest option to come up. Some of the reviews made it seem that the product was defunct with slippage in the connection, etc. However, newer reviews gave me confidence that this might have been a batch problem in the past and was no longer an issue. We got ours the day before our flight, tucked it away and didn't think twice about it. It worked perfectly for us. The connection into the socket was solid, and we had no issues with the US side slipping or being lose. Everything connected perfectly. For a mere $5 it's a perfect option. Now, something to keep in mind is that we used this daily for a week, and only a week. I don't have extensive travel time, and haven't given it more than a weeks use. But I figure that's enough time to get a sense of what a $5 option can give for value. I'd recommend it for all travelers if you're in need of a quick, cheap option (given Amazon Prime). For those interested, I've included a picture of our setup in the hotel to get a sense of how it looks.

I used these plug adapters on a recent trip to England and Ireland. Prior to leaving on the trip, I checked every charger for the electronic devices (laptop, iPad, iPhones, camera and electric razor) we were taking with us to ensure they were designed to work on either 120 volts or 240 volts. Everything worked perfectly using these plug adapters, and there was no need to buy and carry a bulky power converter on the trip. Again, it is very important to read the fine print on each device to verify it is designed to operate on 240 volts. Most dual voltage electronic device chargers will work on either 120 or 240 volts without any intervention from the user. Other dual voltage devices such as hair driers have a small switch that must be manually set to the desired voltage to avoid damaging the device. One should never plug a device that was designed solely to operate on 120 volts into a 240 volt power source. Doing so will likely burn out the device rendering it potentially dangerous. Unless the device specifically states 120/240 volts, don't plug it into a 240 volt socket. Remember, these are plug adapters, NOT POWER CONVERTERS. As such, they only allow a US designed plug to fit into a UK designed socket. They do not step the power down from 240 volts to 120 volts.

I purchased this plug for my UK trip, as I have external batteries, an iPhone an iPad and various electronic devices like a beard trimmer (but no blow dryer - high power). Note that for the price, this is excellent and you will get a more evenly distributed currency than that simply coming from a USB port on a computer. I've found directly plugging into a wall socket charges my devices faster than the PC USB port. There are no guarantees on this product about power surges or over-heating. However, when you are traveling in another country, there is never a guarantee that the circuitry you plug into is guaranteed to work perfectly. Also, you can use a three-prong plug and the more common two prong USA plug. For the price and the absolute necessity of needing this plug, it's a great bargain.

We used 2 of these on our recent trip to Ireland and were extremely happy with the under four dollar price from Amazon and the free shipping with Amazon Prime. We purchased a Samsonite version which also worked well but was bigger/bulkier and much more expensive. Our friends didn't have a grounded adapter and some of their items wouldn't charge until they used one of our grounded adapters. Some have plastic ground/earth plugs and don't seem to work with all gadgets.
If you are going to Ireland or the UK I'd strongly recommend picking up a few of these adapters.

Like previous reviews, it does fit a bit loosely - but never to the point of failure. We never had it fall out.

After reading reviews about plugs falling out of the adapter, we decided to buy just one and see for ourselves. My wife is a flight attendant who travels to London multiple times a month. She used it on her last trip with no problems. The US plug stayed in the adapter and the adapter stayed in the UK receptacle. I have no idea if she was lucky or they have improved their product recently but we just ordered five more for friends and relatives attending our son's wedding in the UK this summer.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews of this product. It works just fine, exactly as intended. However, after traveling europe for several weeks, I have found that there are 3 different plug types: The triangle (UK), the twin prongs (rest of europe), and the triple prongs (Italy only). So your best bet is to buy one of those all-in-one smart adapters.

Product works as designed. Excellent for charging portable electronics (e.g., iPod, iPhone, iPad, Nook) that can use both 120V and 240V.
