Not very helpful or practical,

This book doesn't have enough information to be helpful. It doesn't have any sort of physical development or screening information, nor does it give the average rate of growth for each age. I'd rather look in my ped's text for everything, instead of using this book and another source. Would not recommend for family practice or pediatrics.

Great resource,

This is a great little pocket book and includes the important things to look for or ask about when providing routine well care to children. I give a copy of this to each of my medical students and encourage them to review it before going into the room to see the patient. In regards to physical development or screening that is what this book is used for. On each age group it lists what should be done at that age and suggests what screening should be done at that visit. ie BP, head size, lead level, etc. If you are looking for weight change at each age group take a look at the WHO (world health organization) growth chart. Knowing the rate of change probably isn't that important to your patients, just plot the points and show them the curve. Again, keep in mind that this is meant to be a pocket guide for the full text. If it included the vaccine schedule it would be out of date within 1 year of print. It does well with anticipatory guidance. One more thing, if you are not into having a physical copy of the pocket guide you can download this exact thing in PDF format for free and legally from the AAP website.

This is a great little guide about the recommended health topics and screenings for children based on their age group. Although I'm a pediatric nurse and a nurse pracitioner student, I'd recommend this book for any parent with a little medical knowledge and the desire to learn more about what their child should receive at each pediatric well-child visit. It's very handy and easy to read. I'd recommend it for anyone providing care to children.

I hoped this book had tables/charts for growth and development but it is simply text. Not helpful in a busy family practice.

Would have liked to see tables and charts instead of condensed text reading. The pocket guide lists these themes, the health visit, developmental observation, PE, screening, immunizations and anticipatory guidance. When you review the health supervision visit for Screening you're directed to research the textbook. (See p 58.)For the Immunizations section, your given the websites to CDC and AAP. The only thing I like is the Appendices for dev milestones at a glance, recommended medical screening and sexual maturity rating. This is not what I paid for.

White it is pocket sized and thus can't contain everything you'd ever want to know about pediatric development and recommendations, it does serve as a good guide and has served me well as a nurse practitioner student. It's easy to follow and definitely worth the price. If you work in peds or are a med/NP/PA student, this is a good guide.

My husband needed this during medical school, and I think it really helped him for a quick reference. However, when he was ready to get rid of it, I kept it. It has been nice as a mother of two, to use as a reference tool. But I cannot speak from a medical perspective. I do not know how closely it matches up with AAP regulations and such. But as a mother it helps me kinda understand what to expect at the different milestones.

This book was required for my NP peds class. I have only glanced through it since the class is in the fall. It looks useful with nice illustrations and short get to the point information which is a great asset in a pocket guide. It arrived quickly and was in great condition.

This is a true pocket guide. Very handy for staying on top of the various screenings for each pediatric visit, as well as helpful reminders of tips for parents.
