5.0 out of 5 stars Popmusic true to form
For those who know lots and lots of popmusic this album may come as a very nice surprise.
I can imagine what buying an early Beatles allbum must have felt like at the time.
Sheer excitement!

I loved the first single "No Tomorrow", and particularly enjoyed the video - the model is super hot :). The track is energetic and has a great pop sensibility.

However, I was disappointed when I bought the album because, apart from the title track, which also has a very catchy chorus, the remainder of the album slips into the lower side of the mediocrity...

One tantilising song after another. Orson have toured the UK extensively
and took in the best of what's been around there since te stone-age
of popmusic (Beatles, not Stones!!) and the subsequent periods (XTC and later.)
The energy is everywhere, in the songs, the playing and the singing,
in the lyrics while the production is wide and sometimes hoarse.
This is popmusic true to form and at it's very best.

This CD is a great find. I would highly recommend it to someone who likes to listen to an album in it's entirety without getting bored by a repetitive sound!

I stumbled this somewhere on the internet and just loved it every since. I can listen through the whole CD and enjoy every bits of it. Orson kinda reminds me of Sister Hazel; nice vocal with some catchy tunes. I think this CD is good to get, so you have something great while not many people knows about it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Album!, January 14, 2008
By

Every time I listen to this album I find myself wondering why Orson aren't mega artists. Their arrangements are interesting, lead vocalist Jason Pebworth's slightly 90's-tinged vocals are sexy and heartwarming at the same time, and the lyrics themselves stray from the standard love lost indie rock music out there right now. On top of that, the guys aren't afraid to experiment - see the 80's lite rock infused "Downtown", the dancey "No Tomorrow", or the 70's soul-rock hybrid "Happiness".

Personal favourites for me include their first single "Bright Idea" about a high school crush carrying through when said crush becomes a celebrity - amazing instrumentation and arrangement here, plus some insanely catchy lyrics/vocals. "Already Over" is possibly tied for best song with "Bright Idea" - a heartbreaking tune about breaking up with awesome harmonies in the chorus. "Look Around" (the token ballad) and "Save The World" (about a 'superhero' girlfriend) are also excellent choices.

Is it too early to be borrowing sounds from the 90's? No, not when Orson mashes them up with influences such as those listed above and throws in a dash of 21st century indie rock. Recommended for fans of bands like Snow Patrol or Bloc Party.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The" new release of 2007, August 2, 2007

As an, ahem - "older" - guy who's wary of getting his musical tastes too stuck in the late 70s/80s/early 90s groove, I do try to stretch out and buy new release albums that get good buzz - y'know, from the likes of Ryan Adams, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Franz F, The Rapture et al ... and they're all good stuff, except that sometimes it feels like I'm trying really hard to enjoy them because I think I should - it doesn't always seem to come naturally. Not so these guys! Never saw/heard them until recent 'Diana' concert where they played two songs live (Happiness & No Tomorrow), after which I immediately ordered this. No regrets at all - has to be the debut/new release of 2007 in my book. Well written, well played, well produced. Maybe they're too 'pop' to play on Henry Rollins' show, but I'd take this over most of what else passes thru there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep an eye on this band!, August 16, 2006

This Hollywood band found its path to success in the U.K. as it usually happens. It is a great band that I was lucky to see live without the new guitarist in L.A. last year. This album is incredible! To me they sound much more musically evolved than similar popular alternative/punk american counterparts like Greenday or Foo Fighters ... 'No tomorrow' is my favorite track... highly recommended, can't go wrong with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Americans Finally Caught Our Eyes! And OUR EARS!, August 5, 2006

Until recently I have not been able to listen to an album all the way through, but Orson breaks that streak. For one I happen to think that English music just has an edge above all American artists, and boy oh boy did I have my foot in my mouth when I first listened to the first three tracks, Bright Idea, No Tommorrow, and Happiness.

Look for these guys because they are an ear opener, whether it be the sound or overall fun factor! This is the type of music that will replace that frown with a smile and a laugh while you drive and drive some more!

Check them out! Definately worth it...

2.0 out of 5 stars ...please...someone needs to say the truth..., March 21, 2008
This review is from: Bright Idea (Audio CD)
...you know those songs that are slaughtered with radio play that the subliminally influenced sheep of society will sing the hooks chorus over and over again? Well a few years back this album and every single on it (aka only two of the songs) was heavily played on daytime radio because it was "popular" in other words...very simply it's this: a few awkward musicians (if you really want to judge on appearance...which I don't they kind of like hats...the drummer has a mohawk I believe) play basic chords with very little progression and simple single stringed riffs...then we have the singer with his usual boy bandish voice and lack of lyric writing...I quote "Hey look at me/I'm as happy as can be/I've found a girl who thinks I rock" wow that took alot of brains to come up with that don't choke on your own tempermental exhaustion...

...so yes it is chorus verse chorus verse and daytime radio loves this...but if you like this kind of stuff...don't be put off by my review and feel free to buy it...I'm just not interested in noise that makes me feel like causing mutiniy and storming the palace gates and comitting regicide with a croquet mallet...
