Unusual, Unusually Musically Great,
By C Morris "C" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bright New Day (Audio CD)
I bought the CD when I first heard it being played behind some west coast surfing videos on Television several years ago. Took a while to find it. I am an amateur musician, did not realize how much of an amateur until I listend to this ! Possibly some of the most interesting orchestrations, chord progressions and transitions I have ever heard. Do your self a large favor, if you appreciate good music and something very different, give this a listen. You will not regret it. Please e mail me if you know of any other music by Inclined. My son, grandson and I agree these musicians are truly talented.

Great songs, great playing. These guys can really groove - it's a crime they never made it. Buy this CD if you can find it!

I have to agree with the previous review. This is really a very good CD. I ran across this CD at a store that sells mainly new stuff, but has some used music really cheap ($.50 and up). This CD was $.50, and the cover looked interesting, so I took a flyer on it. Until now I had never even heard of this band, and still know nothing about them, but there is some definite talent here. There are a few standout songs on the CD, but for the most part, the whole album is very good. The songs have a distinctive sound to them and are not the same old generic, boring junk you often hear from some of the lesser known bands. I am surprised I have heard more about these guys, but i will keep my eyes open for new material.

Sonic Funk.,

Found this like most others did, in the discount bin. Very funky, almost a cleaner sounding 311, but no less sonic than Pearl Jam's 10. I don't know of another trio that sounds this sparse while still managing to also play `big,' if that makes sense. As rhythmic as Copeland's drummming was, the Police never played funk-rock like this. You hear bands TALK about their R&B influence, only to find no such thing in their music. Inclined walks the walk and lays down some grooves here for sure. It's clear they were influenced by James Brown as much as Jimi. I should stop comparing them to others though because they're just not like any other. A shame this was their only CD. However, I did see that Miles Tackett from the band is now playing bass and strings in Breakestra. His playing seems more Motownish and mature, but funky nonetheless (Go to: Breakestra dot com) They also have a bunch of CDs here on Amazon:Hit the Floor

Outstanding funky rock and roll,

At first i found it similar to Living Colour, but later i went crazy about this unique and personal sound of Miles Om Tackett, the crazy guitar/cello player and leader of the band. He is a guitar master, as i see it. My favorite is "a day at races", instrumental song.

I had the good fortune of seeing Inclined as an opening act back around 1993 or so in St. Louis, not ever having heard of them. After seeing the show, I IMMEDIATELY went out to find this album. I was just blown away by them live and, although this has become one of my favorite albums, I can remember thinking at the time that the album didn't even do them justice compared to their live performance. I have sought more information on them ever since I saw them. I've always hoped that someday they would resurface but even if not, at least I've got this album. I wouldn't really even know how to characterize their music. Outstanding musicianship, maybe a nod to the jam bands in terms of stretching out some songs but, most of all, just a band that's on the same page. One of the things that has always floored me about them is that a three piece with a drummer who has a kit consisting of a bass, snare, high hats and a crash/ride could be so rhythmically interesting. You can find tons of drummers with huge kits who couldn't come close to grooving this hard. Bottom line, if you've come far enough to see this and can pick this album up for $1 or something at this point............do it. I think you'll be glad you did.

this is a great band.,

I discovered this cd by chance in the used section at a music store and became a huge fan. There is some really good, original stuff on this cd. "The Atom" is a wonderous song. The shimmering tones, supra funky vibes, and stellar jazzy guitar work launch me into the stratosphere like a molecule set free. And "Two Minds" is beautiful and powerful. This band juggles rock, funk, jazz, and experimental music with their own characteristic style and never loose sight of the groove.I always hope that Inclined may release more material some day. The guitar work on this cd is remarkable. Miles' leads are really cool, and a lot of the rhythm work is so unconventional and creative, yet sweet and in the pocket, that I marvel at his choice of guitar parts. The whole band's playing is great. This is a really great cd that I recommend to all my fiends.

These guys are getting back together again and playing in Silverlake on December 29 at 10:45 at the Silverlake Lounge. They have a new album out called Might Not Know it now that has Gene playing Chapman Stick.

I had not a clue this band even existed until today. A friend of mine in New York sent me a compiliation of their work, now i want all they put out...Every once in awhile, a band such as Inclined comes out of nowhere, only to "blow you away..With their own unique sound.." Only happens once in a blue moon, and it shines so good with this group. Highly recommend buying Anything you can get your hands on by them...!
