It looks to be very well made for how much it is.

The underside of the umbrella is a nice reflective material that helps spread the light so that it illuminates the path.

I knew that there was a screw I needed to remove before the batteries could be put in.

Not quite what the photo shows - there is a dark band of a shadow on the opened umbrella where the bulb is blocked by the stem, so it isn't completely illuminated all the way around. I find it very hard to get the batteries into the handle - make sure you own a small screw driver [like the type you use for eyeglasses] to hold them in. On the plus side, this does give off quite a bit of illumination - I had it on a dark path and could see very well without carrying a flashlight. I'm sure it's also a safety feature to be seen at night.

This umbrella is sized for one person, as opposed to a big golf umbrella or something. It seems to be relatively well built and I believe it will hold up as well as any other "good quality" umbrella. I got it for my wife. We live in the Northwest, where days get short in the winter and it's often raining. This has her walking in the dark to-and-from her bus stop. The obvious point of safety is the visibility. There's about zero chance she'll accidentally get hit by a car while using this umbrella. The unexpected aspect of safety is creep repellency. There's no scientific study or anything, but my wife feels like this thing repels creeps. I suppose predators don't like to be in the spotlight or attract a lot of attention. Instead, they look for stealthy ways to be goons so they don't get seen or caught. Because this umbrella creates a lot of visibility and attracts a lot of attention, the thought is that creeps will avoid my wife as a potential target.

The image on the website makes the umbrella appear as though it puts out a LOT of light. That's not the case, but it does put out plenty of light for the purpose it's designed for.

This is a quality umbrella, sturdy construction, nice bright color. I've only had it for a week and used it once so far with only a minor issue (the latch to hold it open is hard to get to engage and stay open, but once you figure out how it works, it's ok).

From the online description I mistakenly thought this was "golf umbrella" size (fits 1 adult comfortably, or 2-3 people crowding beneath it), but this is not the case. Instead it is rather small, just big enough for one adult.

The light idea is a good one, but it uses an old style glass light bulb rather than LEDs. The glass bulb is exposed inside with no protection from breakage.

If it had an LED instead and was golf sized, I would rate it a 5.

The lamp does a great job of evenly illuminating the white umbrella canopy. The canopy can be seen a long way off, and it casts reflected light at your feet, so you can see where you are stepping.

The light in the product is a single incandescent bulb. The umbrella I received came with a plastic bag containing a bulb and a back-up bulb to save at home for later. So first thing, you'll install that bulb. What I did not know is that the lamp socket moves: With the umbrella fully open the socket pushes out of its recess, making it much easier to screw in the bulb. You will need a small straight-edge screw driver to close the battery box.

The picture of this product is misleading. There is a small pin light that only illuminates the inside of the umbrella. (It does not glow as the picture implies) The directions are written on a tag on the umbrella in a 4 font, very difficult to read. In order to insert the 4 AA batteries you must remove this tiny pop up screw on the handle. You then have to guess which way the batteries go in. Way to pricey for a simple umbrella
