Great Album, Not Quite As good as Courage To Grow,
By
This review is from: Bright Side of Life (Dig) (Audio CD)
Overall the album is very decent to listen to. Yes it certainly does not match up to their first major cd, "Courage to Grow" which was an overall excellent cd. I would give that cd 6 stars out of 5 because it was perfect. If you want more of the similar guitar riffs and keyboard and reggae sound then you will definitely want this cd. I liked over half the songs throughout my first listen and I know the others will grow on me overtime. My favorite songs are #1, #2, #, #6,#8, #9, #10, #12. I do admit that the original "change the system" sounded a bit better as it had more sounds and was a bit more unique as a song. Still the new version is still good.
If you are looking for a danceable Reggae/Rock album to listen to while at the beach, friends house, a party or an event then this is it. If you do not like rock at least a little bit then you will not like this cd as its a mixture of rock and reggae. Keep in mind Rebelution has a new singer now. I feel he is almost as good and makes the songs just as fun to listen to. Lyrics overall don't meet the quality of "Courage to Grow" but there are still some really great songs with amazing lyrics like "moonlight" and "wake up call" If you were expecting a totally new sound from rebelution with very different sounding rhythms and riffs, then you will be dissapointed. Bright Side of Life is like a continuation of Courage to Grow. To me that's a great thing as I loved the first cd. Also its good to mix your music in playlists anyways. Overall I think the cd is a must buy. I think you will enjoy the new cd much better in concert when you are dancing or jammin with others to the music. Other bands you might want to check out are elan, tribal seeds, outlaw nation, stephen marley, jah roots, ky-mani marley, tarrus riley, morgan heritage, soldiers of jah army, pepper, groundation, fiji, katchafire, and collie buddz. Also dont forget to listen to older reggae such as the gladiators, bob marley, abyssinians, don carlos, gregory isaacs, the wailers and more. Hope this review helped.

With success comes criticism. If you truly don't like the album that's fine, but I don't see how this 2nd album deviates very much from the first(and it is certainly more deserving of one star;that's drama queen stuff). I honestly think if anything it is too close to the first album. I do think this album grows on you more so than the first effort, Courage to Grow (which is a little ironic). I also think the remixes offered on the Remix EP are more punchier than the respective cuts on Bright Side of Life. That said, I also think the Courage remixes are livelier too. In the end, Rebelution is already one of the best reggae bands around. With their fusion of reggae beats and tasty guitar work, this music makes me want to move. The Rebelution sound is much more a roots rock sound than say The Expendables or Long Beach Dub,Slightly Stoopid, or Sublime. They are excellent live and you should check them out.

I haven't written any music reviews but I feel that its necessary for Rebelution's Bright Side of Life. Anyone out there that enjoys reggae/rock style and is on the fence about getting this album because of mediocre reviews, do yourself a big favor and grab this. Their last album, Courage to Grow, granted, is awesome. It has several lasting tracks that stay with you and are infectious. Bright Side of Life is the same way, and these guys share a musical flow together that is incredible. I've read that they got a new vocalist for this album but man, this guy goes toe to toe. They keep the island feel all along the way, reminds me of Cultura Profetica at times, with positive vibes to boot. Always inspiring lyrics, always puts me in a good mood. Favorite tracks are "Bright Side of Life", "More Than Ever", "Outta Control", and most of all "From The Window".

Great music all the way through. Different than their last album, but just as good! This is an album I can listen to all the way through and have MANY times since it came out!

This is my first album from these guys. It is an okay album that will do just fine in a shuffled playlist however the songs are a little boring to listen to in order. Most all the songs sound very similar very little deviation from the sound of the previous track. The last two songs are a little preachy for me too, especially Wake Up Call. I understand the roots of reggae is protect music however those songs are not really protesting anything, they are more so just whining about middle class. They get on a business man about owning multiple cars, well let's see when they make it somewhat big what they buy! my guess they will have a pretty sweet tour bus and nice pads thus making hypocrites of themselves. There is plenty to complain and protest about, but not honest people making a decent living. Rebel against the system that crates disparity not the guy who worked his butt off to get a decent job with decent pay. Anyway other than my soap box there the album is pretty cool but not the best. It is relaxing but not very stimulating, nothing on the album really sticks out in my mind.

Mind-blowing.,

This new album by rebelution is amazing. As the title says, it definately sounds a lot brighter and up-beat from their previous album, yet they're still able to keep their great vibe from their last album.
Each song is simply amazing to listen to. If you like reggae even remotely, I recommend getting this album and also Courage to Grow, their previous album.

Good CD though: different sound and this is because of a band member leaving. Matt Velasquez left the band in the early yrs. Courage to Grow has a different feeling and sound. Courage to Grow was my 1st Rebelution cd and was the best cd I have heard in a very long time. So then came this new cd. I love it though it has a different sound. I cant really explain it but it everyone who listens to it can see there is a difference. All I can say is check out Drum Major Instinct. You will see Matt's sound and influences. He was the reason for COurage To Grow's sound. The new CD is great. Not as good or maybe its just different. Pick it up its still good just expect a little different vibe from these guysBack to the Sun
