5.0 out of 5 stars Just beginning to see the best of Brad
I can still remember the first time I saw Brad w/ Five Times August live. I thought, he's good. I saw him again just before the release of this album and I think he has the potential to be an amazing and unforgettable artist. This album has the perfect sound no matter what your mood is. I can listen to "Good Life" while out for a run or cooking in the kitchen. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'd have to say this is chick music
The Good
The soothing and melodic vocals of Brad Skistimas stick right out on the album's opener "Giving It All To You." Acoustic grooves and a hook-laden chorus back him up on this one. "Overrated" delves into how some women can be one way when you meet them, but when you really get to know them, turn out to be something else. "Surface" is a beautiful acoustic...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Album from Brad..., May 12, 2008

This review is from: Brighter Side (Audio CD)
"Brighter Side" is a clear evolution of Five Time August's musical style. You can still hear the distinct similarities to "Fry Street" and "The Independent," but things sound more cohesive. While musicianship has always been a good point with Brad's playing, the production of this record is better than past efforts. Whereas Brad's first offerings were more generic acoustic works, "Brighter Side" develops his unique sound while drawing closer to the likes of John Mayer. Overall it's a great CD. Well worth the money. If you're a fan of the acoustic genre, you'd be doing yourself a disservice to not give this album a listen.

I have a crush on this artist. listening to him makes me feel all fluttery in the heart. I know it sounds silly but it could be that's what they mean by "chick" music

3.0 out of 5 stars I'd have to say this is chick music, February 4, 2009

The Good
The soothing and melodic vocals of Brad Skistimas stick right out on the album's opener "Giving It All To You." Acoustic grooves and a hook-laden chorus back him up on this one. "Overrated" delves into how some women can be one way when you meet them, but when you really get to know them, turn out to be something else. "Surface" is a beautiful acoustic ballad full of passion. Brad channels his inner John Mayer on "Here." Skistimas finds the distortion switch on his amp and delivers some catchy riffs on "One Way Road."

The Bad
Can be a bit too mellow at times. I don't understand the need for a bandname when this is really a one man show.

The Verdict
From a guys point of view, I'd have to say this is chick music. However, you can't deny Skistimas' knack for songwriting and soothing melodies. Guys might want to pick this one up to impress their ladies when it comes to romance time, but at other times, Brighter Side should be left for the girls.
