5.0 out of 5 stars Very bright, warm white, wide beam
I've tried a number of MR11 and MR16 LED lights, and this was definitely the best of the MR11s that I've tried, and probably better than most if not all of the MR16s that I've tried. The light really is "warm white": it doesn't look out of place along side a halogen bulb. It also manages to be both very bright and wide-angle. Most of the LED MR11s and MR16s that I've...

3.0 out of 5 stars Glare. Not as bright but pretty good.
High glare(comes with LEDs) so ensure the edge of the holder goes well past the bulb. I was replacing Ikea bookshelf lights. These are not as bright but satisfactory for ambient light. Disperse light at the same angles. Until someone builds a better LED these have to do.

Most of the LED MR11s and MR16s that I've tried in the past either had a very narrow beam (even when they claimed to be flood lights, not spot lights) or were very dim. This light is really bright, and the width of the beam is comparable to a halogen MR11 flood.

The only possible downside to this light I can think of is that it uses an array of LEDs, and if placed very close to a surface (eg: if it's mounted on a wall, the wall right next to it) you may be able to see individual points of light on the surface, which sort of destroys the illusion that you're dealing with a single "bulb". Well, another downside is that I doubt that it is dimmable the way a halogen is (only because dimmable LED lights are almost impossible to find), but I don't have a need for dimming in my application, so that hasn't been an issue for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes for a great aquarium light, January 28, 2010

I'm very pleased with this bulb in a nano aquarium setup. It's got plenty of output and the dispersion characteristics are awesome. The bulb isn't waterproof so I sprayed it with an automotive clear coat. Problem solved. The price and Amazon shipping just sweetens the pot on this bulb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for Malibu yard lights, June 30, 2010

This review is from: Brightest MR11 12 Volt AC DC 10 5050 SMD LED Bulb Wide Angle 140 Lumen 2.1 Watt, Warm White, 1113WW
I wanted LED replacements for the Malibu 20W Cast Metal Flood lights (8301-9604-01) in my back yard. I was a little worried because these flood lights actually have bi-pin halogen bulbs which nobody seems to have in LED form. Turns out, after some research, that the bi-pin halogen bulbs in this model of flood light are actually the same pin width and electrical compatibility as the MR11 style bulbs, just a different shape. Some Malibu lights use true MR11 bulbs where these used these bi-pin ones - I guess just to make things confusing. Anyway, I had some old MR11 bulbs and sure enough they actually fit these flood light units anyway so I ordered these as replacement bulbs- a bit of a gamble.

I'm happy to say that the gamble paid off: these MR11 bulbs fit in this model flood light even though the bulbs aren't the same shape and they work great!

In fact, they're brighter and don't put off any heat. I've replaced 4 of my 20W with these and now I'm saving just over 75W of power PLUS I'm getting better light output on the whole line (I have a long run of low voltage lighting).

So if you're wondering if you can use these in other Malibu lights with the bi-pin style bulbs, I'd say chances are high they'll fit. I can tell you for certain, they fit the model number above.

Some advantages of LEDs:

1) Significantly less power consumption for the same light.

2) No heat.

3) Lasts longer (yeah the bulb costs more than the 7 dollar halogen bulb from Home Depot, but it will last a hell of a lot longer).

4) If you have long runs of low voltage lighting you can't usually go over a max of 300 watts total- with LEDs, you can put many more lights on a single transformer.

I think there are some environmental savings as well but you get the point. Highly recommended- in fact I'm buying more to replace all the 20W's in my front yard. :-)

I bought MR16 versions of these also and reviewed them also if you want to verify model number compatibility on those.

4.0 out of 5 stars decently bright for an MR11 bulb, May 30, 2010

Got 2 of these for my Fluval Edge fish tank. They are decently bright and the beam covers as much of the tank as the opening will allow (it seems, much more than the stock bulbs) Hopefully they'll be able to sustain a few low-light requiring plants and some small fishiess!

5.0 out of 5 stars great light at a small price , great for aquariums!, May 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I also bought this light for use in an aquarium that only takes a mr11 halogen bulb with a gu4 base which overheats the tank and can create alage. This bulb puts out very little heat and lights the tank well with a brilliant crisp white color. Only problem that I had along with another reviewer is that the led's are not shielded from water and are exposed. This is nothing a little heavy duty plastic and aquarium silicone cant seal. Now they are water tight and look and work great!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good economical choice, November 2, 2010

This review is from: Brightest MR11 12 Volt AC DC 10 5050 SMD LED Bulb Wide Angle 140 Lumen 2.1 Watt, Warm White, 1113WW
These little (MR 11 size) lamps throw off a lot of light, especially for Wattage consumption of only 2.1 Watts each. They are much more expensive than a similiar sized Halogen, but they consume much less energy, and I feel it is worth the cost difference. I use 4 of them with a timer, and they are on every night for 11 hours, so in the long run it will make a difference. Word of Caution with these lamps is in order, as they are taller than a standard MR 11 Halogen. This is because the actual LED components are surface mounted on the top. The fixtures I had purchased had a glass plate at the top to protect the bulb, and the LEDs prevented my using it, since the retainer snap ring would not seat down in it's groove. By leaving the glass off, the snap ring now holds the LED assymbly in place and they work fine.

I purchased this as a replacement bulb for a fiberoptic Halloween decoration. It was just as bright as the original incandescent bulb, and uses much less energy. Very happy with this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars good for outdoor lighting, September 21, 2010

This review is from: Brightest MR11 12 Volt AC DC 10 5050 SMD LED Bulb Wide Angle 140 Lumen 2.1 Watt, Warm White, 1113WW
I purchased these for a large outdoor lighting installation, 800' loop, 25 lights. Forget about the power savings and possible increased bulb life, on a new installation like mine, I would have spent another $400 or $500 on wire as the 11 watt halogens would have required 3 times as much wire of comparable gauge. As it is, I was able to run a single loop of 14 gauge wire without having a large voltage drop.

If you have a a fluvel edge aquarium these are the perfect replacement lights --i will need to get more lighting but these offer ample lighting. I am going to put a couple coats of clear coat on them to water proof them.
