Editorial Reviews

Smug Kissing Booth
...a great soundtrack for dreaming, and a creative mix of the organic with the inorganic

Product Description
Brighton Park is a fantastical journey: an animated rollercoaster ride through the upbeat theme park- a perpetual chain of cars disapearing into the funhouse- a fearless treading through polluted puddles with pretty colors. This is La Makita Soma's second full length record, a groundbreaking work that marries instrumental rock and techno with undeniable energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best album ive heard in a while., April 15, 2002

killer album. manages to take the technique, and genre hopping style of tortoise and other modern art rock bands, and infuse it with the humanist feeling that thier peers sometimes miss. good stuff, not much else to say. check out thier first album monkey island.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD by La Makita Soma, October 8, 2007
I went to SIU-Carbondale and had the opportunity to see this band perform live many times in college. They had an awesome stage show. The drummer and bass player really kept the groove going so that the 2 keyboardists could improvise and have free range. I went to see them perform this album so many times, I became known as the "dancing black guy" by many of the other fans.

This album is beyond words. It is too plain and simple to describe it as techno or house based. It is very danceable, yet it transcends many musical styles. It can be called post-rock or even post-dance or post-funk. Simply, this album is a classic and it will never be outdone.

The group has long since disbanded, but I am hoping that they will have a reunion tour. Get this album, it will change your life and you will keep this CD on repeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brighton Park Memoirs , July 28, 2006

I've been listening to this album for years and it never gets old to me. It's one of the most beautiful things out there and these guys should all give themselves a pat on the back for creating something so wonderful...and get back together to make more music.
