Great guitar work!,

This is one awesome live album. Not just for the great Outlaws standards, but especially for the fantastic guitar breaks. I've listened to BIBA hundreds of times since I got in on vinyl 20 years ago, and it still gives me a thrill. If you like southern rock at all, you must own this CD!

Pound for pound, this is one of the best live albums ever produced. Period. That I've owned the 8 track, cassette, and CD version of it (besides dating myself), speaks volumes. It ranks right alongside Skynyrd's One More From The Road, the Stones' Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!, and the Ramone It's Alive (all of which I've also had multiple versions of) as a live album you can listen to from beginning to end without skipping any tracks. A fitting testament to the Florida Guitar Army - The Outlaws.

Greatest Southern Rock, Period.,

Although recorded just after the departure of Henry Paul, which was a huge disapointment for me at the time. (I was awaiting a live album with H.P.)This is still a must have. From the opening, which is an electronic score (with Henry, they used the William Tell Overture)the build up to the guitar plug ins is apparent. The treasure here is Billy Jones last great live performance. His rendition of "Prisoner" and "Holiday" are worth the price. Of course Hughie always shines. Together, they are rocks greatest guitar line up of all time. Also get the new album, So-Low. Pete.

I Came Back Alive (barely),

The Outlaws were definitely a concert band, so this cd (or "album" for us old folks) is a hot item.In 1979, there were so many of us who wanted to travel 3 hours to see The Outlaws at Tanglewood (on the New York border of Mass.), that we chartered two greyhound busses, plus tons of carloads. Though the weather was clear and warm, it had rained for days before. So when more beer was in people than in the kegs, the fights broke out -- many fights even right in front of the stage! The place turned into a mud bowl. The band kept a playin. I remember most of it. It's amazing how merciful God is to let so many of us live through our 1970s foolishness. Now maybe it's time to hear the music all over again with a clear mind, and blessed to be alive.

A CLASSIC FROM ONE OF THE BEST BANDS EVER !,

The OUTLAWS were among the absolute finest bands/guitarists ever to walk the planet and this album is a fitting live tribute and record of their incredible music and skills. Their talent is unmatched to this day and they are sorely missed. Especially notable is the accurate, complex and steady backup from their bass player and drummer who worked very hard to complete the mission and provide as the incredible backbone of the music. Thankfully (and lucky for us) this recording documents their energy and talents. This is the among the finest guitar work you'll ever hear from anyone, anywhere. No one did it better back then, no one does it better now, and no one ever will, in a 3-guitarist configuration with this kind of music. This album is a treasure!

A friend of mine introduced me to the outlaws way back when, and it's the kind of music that you just have to have in your collection. the live production is superior to many live albumns i've heard. I just took a 500 mile trip to fla. and I must have played this cd 5 times. these guys are just great musicians. Time for a "rebirth" tour!.goosebumps and musical orgasms!... rock on!......

This is my favorite album of all time. In all these years, I have never been tired of listening to it. I wore out 2 of the double albums since the early eighties and now I'm working on wearing out my first CD. What else can I say? The Outlaws jam live like no other.

Great live southern rock,
By Mike Seay (VA. USA) - See all my reviews

This is an often overlooked gem of southern rock. The Outlaws probably didn't ever get the credit they deserved for some of their great songs, complete with 3 guitars and vocal harmonies ala Eagles. "Stick Around for Rock and Roll" is a great long jam. The beginning of "Song for You" has a triple lead guitar switch off (Salem, Jones, Thomasson respectively) which falls into a Thomasson and Jones harmony lead guitar line, then Jones takes over briefly before the vocals. Most of this album is everything you would expect in a southern rock album--lead guitar switch offs, harmony guitar lines, and long jamming. Freddie Salem plays on this release. He joined after Henry Paul left the band. "Hurry Sundown" has a lot of spark to it, with Hughie on lead vocals, a great harmony guitar line, and again lead guitars trading off. Then the band kicks in with the epic "Green Grass and High Tides". I believe they stetched it out a little too far on this one. However, it's still a great song. The lead guitars by Hughie and Billy are totally over the top. They have always been underrated, for whatever reason. Unfortunately, those looking for a full Outlaws reunion--sadly, it will never happen. Billy Jones and original bass player Frank O'Keefe passed away in 1995.

Four guitars on Green Grass and High Tides - what more could you want?,
By Friendlycard (Norfolk, UK) - See all my reviews

The front cover says it all - yes, this band really did have FOUR guitarists. When it works well, the results are stunning.
So far as I'm aware, this 1978 offering is one of two live Outlaws CDs, the other being the (now hard-to-find) 'Hittin the Road Live' (1993). Don't worry if you can't get the latter, as this album is by far the better of the two. The reason most people would buy this CD is, of course, for the finale, a mind-blowing 21-minute live version of "Green Grass and High Tides", a track which is surely a strong contender for "best-ever guitar-driven rock track". Though necessarily slightly less polished than the studio version, the live recording much more than makes up for this by the fresh atmosphere and excitement which it brings to this truly awesome epic.
