5.0 out of 5 stars One of His Best in years! June 8, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I am a very big Jorn Lande fan for around 10 years now, I grew up in the 70's and 80's with all the classic music Jorn loved and I'm a musician myself, You can hear on this album how much he loved bands like Rainbow, DIO, Deep Purple, Sabbath etc.
It stars off with some beautiful Acoustic guitar intro then kicks in with the Title track "Bring Heavy Rock to the Land" not a bad song, just not my favorite one on the album,
But when "A Thousand Cuts" gets going man this song is awesome has all the classic Jorn elements in it.
Ride like the Wind is a an old 70's Christopher Cross song Heavy style..this song is OK IMO
The rest of the album really get going though after that!
Chains Around you is fast paced and heavy, some real nice guitar work on it.
The next song is my personal favorite on the album "The World I See " an emotional journey of hard rock proportions! it reminds me of a song that would have been on Spirit Black and very DIO influenced.
Time to be King..pretty heavy and fast paced also, then it slows down in sections to build up to the nest fast paced level..well done!
Ride the Guns has a kick ass intro with nice solo , this one is very fast..kinda like a Deep Purple on speed!
"Black Morning" reminds me of Bad Company or even like 38 Special real classic rock feeling to it.
"I Came to Rock" another rocker which sounds like something from the 70's just a little heavier. real nice guitar solo in this song.
the last song "Live and Let Fly" is the bonus track a nice fast rocker to close the album with, great diversity on this album.

All and all a very good Jorn album, but what else would you expect? Keep Rocking!!

Norwegian super-vocalist Jorn Lande and company delivered their ninth studio album, titled Bring Heavy Rock to the Land, in 2012. It was Jorn's first original studio album since 2009's Spirit Black, but Jorn has hardly been idle these past few years, releasing an album with Masterplan, a compilation, a live album/DVD and of course the Dio tribute album. Those don't quite satisfy like a new Jorn album though, so Bring Heavy Rock to the Land was eagerly anticipated.

Unfortunately, Bring Heavy Rock to the Land is something of a letdown. Sure, it's Jorn doing what he does best, but the album seems kind of flat, like he really didn't have much songwriting inspiration this time around and is just going through the motions. It says something that the album doesn't really have a standout track until the fourth song, and that one's a cover of Christopher Cross's "Ride Like the Wind." Jorn seems to be taking his cues from Saxon's version, which is a good call. Jorn also offers another take on the Masterplan song "Time to Be King," changing the arrangement so it's more to his style of melodic metal. Of the new material, most of the songs just don't stand out. Well, the title track does, but that's more for its cheesiness than anything else. There are a couple of exceptions though. The slow build and powerful heaviness of "The World I See" is a song that makes you stop what you're doing and really take notice, and "Black Morning" has a great AOR vibe, acoustic strumming and soulful, bluesy singing that just goes right to the heart.

Bring Heavy Rock to the Land isn't a bad album by any means.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy June 7, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Bring Heavy Rock to the Land is arguably JORN's strongest release yet. The album rocks all the way through. From the speedy "Chains Around You" to the badass "Ride to the Guns" to the complex "I Came to Rock," this album has a little bit of everything. "The World I See," a slower but powerful tune, is definitely worth mentioning as well. The single, although a very good song, does not do this album justice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jorn - Flying the flag for Heavy Rock..... June 7, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Like many fellow reviewers and fans, I got very excited to hear about this release. Jorn has become arguably the best exponent of heavy rock / metal and each of his recordings has always managed to hit some sort of mark with me. I heard the single and title track, "Bring Heavy Rock to The Land" and as much as it pains me to say, I was not all that blown away as what I thought I would have been. I then saw the art work to the album and was not hoping for much, it's a priestly figure, with a crows head, all dressed in black and brandishing a large cross. Maybe he is the messiah of heavy rock? I really don't know. Jorn it seems is a big fan of the oxymoron as this album has very little to do with religion in a holy sense, but more so of an undying faith toward another power, that of heavy rock. And rock it does, BHRTTL is a true powerhouse of all things heavy and melodic. The band are as tight as ever on what appears to be a homage to those that cam before him. One can't help but think of Rainbow, Purple and the obvious Whitesnake when listening to this album, and he does it all with apparent ease. He even manages to belt out a cover of the Christopher Cross classic "Ride Like The Wind" which sounds amazing all heavied up as it were. I have only heard this song covered once before, that was by Saxon on their "Destiny" album, but this is far better in my opinion. So back to BHRTTL, I must say that once you hear the entire CD, you will go back again and againg, finding something new every time. The voice is incredible, as always and ever more convincing on these 80's themed powerhouse rockers, "Ride to The Guns" is a very good example of this. My favourite track however has to be "Chains Around You". This track is incredible, comprising of the power and melody that has been Jorn's flagship for years. Read more ›
