Takes me back,
By Jon (Illinois United States) - See all my reviews

This Album (CD) is truly one of the hidden gems in the gospel music world. I was in a record store in 1994 and saw this in the $1 bin. I was unfamillair with it but decided to pick it up due to the price. I listened to it in my car and was blown away! I lost this CD in 1996 and I was truly sad. I did get another copy later in 2002 when I was going thru something and without fail, when I put it in the CD player...It took me back. what an annoited piece of work. A must have for any person that needs "the special one" to pick you up and minister to you from time to time.

For the traditional gospel audience, you can't beat these girls with Dr Jones. They are superb!

I love all the songs and the singers. They were soo anointed and talented and beautiful. God used Bobby Jones to get this entity together to bless the masses via TV and then via recorded music. Honey, they left an impact on gospel music, especially Beverly Crawford for going solo and doing considerably well. But I was saddened to learn that they broke up under negative circumstances. This album did considerably well and proved that TV peeps CAN be successful recording artists. They should have stayed together longer. Who knows what larger impact they may have had on the world. Emily, Angie, Nuana, and Francine all could have gone solo, and Beverly probably could have been had a much successful solo career by now. But I'm praying for a reunion of these five and I"m praying that the video will be re-released. Also, with due respect to Bobby Jones, he really needs to get himself out of the way and let God have His way. These songs just bless my soul. God bless.

This album is one of the best albums of all time, yet it still is underrated! The New Life Singers at the time (Angie, Beverly, Emily, Francine and Nuana) were the bomb! That's why Bobby Jones let them be on most of the album(and without a bunch of special guests). They had such a unique sound. The musicians were the bomb, too. Also, the singers could take on traditional, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, blues w/ relative ease.Francine Belcher was a nice female tenor (especially on "Be Ready"). Emily Harris was great on "In His Care." Angela Primm was the bomb soprano, especially on "Anybody Here." Nuana Dunlap was all that on some of my personal favorites, "God Will Deliver On Time" and "In His Care." Last but not least, Beverly Crawford, one of the true princesses of gospel music, was phenomonal (sp!) on the title track and "He'll Step In On Time"! Lately, I've been playing this album out! I'm hoping that the video will be rereleased and that people will realize that these women were absolutely nothing to play with. No disrespect to the current New Life members or the Nashville SuperChoir, who are great in their own right, but let there be a reunion of one of the greatest but unique gospel grouping of all time! |
