Book Description

From New York Times Bestselling Author Katie MacAlister comes the first Dark Ones novella.

Battling a demon lord is all in a day’s work for the Dark One named Sebastian. But now he must take on a horde of unhappy zombies and an obnoxious teen vampire if he wants to win the hand of the one woman who can make him whole.

Ysabelle is a woman with a past, and not a whole lot of future if a certain demon lord has his way. With zombies, demons, and a little thing like death standing in her way, will she find happiness in the man who’s seen more darkness than she can imagine?

Note: this novella was published in 2006 and again in 2010 in the Just One Sip and My Zombie Valentine anthologies, respectively. Readers should be aware that this is a republishing of a previously published novella.

Although many of us have read this in one of the anthologies, for a frugal person this may be a better value. Not every author in an anthology is going to be to your taste and you may just want to read only one author.

If you have been following the Dark Ones series and haven't yet read this novella, I highly recommend it as it revisits some of our very favorite characters from the earlier books. If you remember who Damien is then you are going to love this. He still thinks most 'Beloved's' smell! But he has turned into a very nice little boy/Dark One. And Sebastian is as usual his overtly broody overly protective self. And Ysabelle is great since she really isn't what you expect.

It is quite a good story as a stand alone also.

4.0 out of 5 stars It was all that I expected it to be February 21, 2012

Again, MacAlister made me laugh out loud and roll my eyes at the same time.

Bring Out Your Dead (Dark Ones Novels) is an oldie but a goodie. Published in 2006, republished in 2010, I don't know how I missed this one. It's loaded with lovable, laughable characters: imps, zombies, an annoying spirit guide that so totally butchers the French language. An equally annoying child vamp, and...oh yeah, a hunky vampire that keeps calling MacAlister's protagonist, Ysabelle,( yeah, I said Ysabelle. Where the hell does Katie come up with the names? The name alone makes me giggle) his Beloved. And if you have ever read MacAlister you know what that means. Silly sex, crazy situations, and someone has to help someone get his soul back, following those silly steps - and still I laugh. But...

...in Bring Out Your Dead the zombies steal the show. Action packed, the dialogue is fast-paced and laugh out loud funny. Yep, those dead guys have all the best lines.

When I need a break, just want to laugh out loud and roll my eyes a lot, I pick up a MacAlister novel. This one's a keeper.

I gave it 4 out of 5, because it is what it is: Everything I expected it to be.

This is just a short story not a full length novel. Overall it was not her best work. I absolutely love her dragon series but here the humor seemed forced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! May 15, 2014

I really enjoy Katie MacAlister's take on the vampires and the realm of their world. She makes them entertaining, sexy and as all typical men, hardheaded and obstinate! All of her stories intertwine, but each book is strong on it's own. This is a fun, entertaining book for the young adult and above. I'm in my 50's and I loved it!

It was an OK, fun, fast read. Nothing special. Nothing bad. At least MacAlister is a polished, true writer. So many Kindle books are a travesty.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great. March 20, 2014

Not as good as others in the series, it was a bit confusing, no epilogue. Quick read.
It did get better towards the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the series but this book? March 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
You have to sometimes read just to satisfy your curiosity regarding certain characters. This was such a book. This book if it had had no series to attach itself to would be barely worth the read. It was like even the author was bored.
If you HAVE to know about what happens to each character in the series then read this book. Otherwise. a dentist visit would be more fun.

it helped explain a bit more about Noelle and Sebastian. I was also curious about how Sebastian found his beloved.
