From Library Journal
This is a collection of quotes from interviews with musicians, writers, producers, and promoters associated with the music scene in Greenwich Village over the last 25 years. The focus of the book is Folk City, the nightclub that fostered the careers of many folksingers in the 1960s and has showcased rock, punk, and new wave bands during the 1970s and 1980s. The author, co-owner of the club since 1980, interviewed over 150 individuals and has arranged their comments under general headings like "Singer Songwriters" and "The Eclectic Seventies" but often with little interconnection from one quote to another. The personal perspectives provided by the interviewees is occasionally interesting, but overall the book is too loosely focused to be compelling or really informative. Tim LaBorie, Drexel Univ.
