Steve Tarani brings a wealth of credibility and experience to the subject of edged weaponry - both combatives and defense. In this he is a defensive tactics (DT) subject matter expert.

In this book Tarani bridges the gap between DT and the arena of extreme close quarters small arms tactics. The premise of the book is that in an attack originating within 21 feet, an attacker will close the gap between them and you in about the same time it takes for you to mentally react and draw a small arm (handgun) - about 2 seconds. Therefore, in this interval the standard marksmanship instruction is not applicable and the good guy will have to resort to extreme close quarters shooting techniques.

Tarani posits that the two fields of DT instruction, dealing with extreme close quarters edged weaponry defense, and small arms instruction, dealing with extreme close quarters shooting, have historically been taught separately. In this book he attacks this issue from both ends (the DT side and the small arms side) in an effort to bridge this gap.

This is a book dealing with the very rarified atmosphere of a specific interval. It is a valuable resource and people who climb at these altitudes will recognize the gems in this book.
