Editorial Reviews

Review

"Mom Donna" and Mother Teresa are both helpful Lenten companions, offering encouragement and creative ideas for family prayer, fasting, and almsgiving throughout this holy season. Though we already have loads of Lenten traditions in our family, I always take something new away from Donna-Marie's books. I love the "Reflections for Parents" in this book, as well as the stories from Mother Teresa's life.~Karen Edmisten, Author of After Miscarriage

"Can you imagine spending Lent with Mother Teresa? A chance of a lifetime! Donna-Marie's book will do that exactly for you. Enjoy!"--Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel, C.F.R.

"Hand-in-hand with her spiritual mentor Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Donna-Marie provides timeless wisdom, practical and yet meaningful fasting and almsgiving opportunities, and prayers that will be cherished by your family. Give yourselves the gift of a Lenten path that will have you truly savoring the season and glorying in the Easter miracle together."--Lisa M. Hendey, Founder of CatholicMom.com and author of A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms

"What a superb resource for families. For the first time in my life, I can't wait for Lent!"--Lisa Mladinich, Author of Be an Amazing Catechist: Inspire the Faith of Children

"Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle's personal and profound reflections on Mother Teresa highlight the countercultural idea that sacrifice and prayer will make you more joyful and more fully human." --Tony Rossi, Host and Producer, The Christophers

More About the Author

Donna-Marie is a wife, mother of five children, blogger, catechist, TV host, and sought after speaker who thoroughly enjoys her motherhood and considers it to be a sublime vocation. She feels passionate about inspiring and encouraging other mothers along their journeys through motherhood. Donna-Marie also writes about prayer, family issues, the Church, and the saints.

Donna-Marie was invited by the Holy See to participate in an international congress for Catholic women at the Vatican in 2008 which focused on "Mulieris Dignitatm: On the Dignity and Vocation of Women."

Donna-Marie was blessed to know Blessed Teresa of Calcutta for about ten years. They met more than a dozen times and shared a correspondence that spanned a period of ten years. She became a Lay Missionary of Charity (lay part of her Religious Order) and founded a branch of the lay Order. Blessed Mother Teresa wrote the Foreword for Donna-Marie's book, "Prayerfully Expecting: A Nine Month Novena for Mothers-To-Be" (Crossroad Publishing, 2007). Blessed Mother Teresa endorsed Donna-Marie's books: "Catholic Prayer Book for Mothers" (Our Sunday Visitor, Oct. 2005) and "The Heart of Motherhood: Finding Holiness in the Catholic Home" (Crossroad Publishing, 2006) as well, and encouraged Donna-Marie to write them and to continue to write other books as well to help mothers, women, and families. Donna-Marie feels she should pass on the blessings that she have received from Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta to others and she strives to do so through her writing, talks, radio and television.

Because Donna-Marie loves to inspire mothers, she created two series for EWTN television "Everyday Blessings for Catholic Moms" and "Catholic Mom's Cafe" which she hosts. You can check that out on EWTN TV. Donna-Marie can't help but weave Mother Teresa's wisdom throughout her writings and talks. A DVD for Season One of Donna-Marie's EWTN series is available at EWTN and Donna-Marie's website. It contains the first 25 segments of the show. The second set of 25 segments will air soon and will be available on DVD. Some segments are now on You tube. The Catholic Mom's Cafe DVD is also available.

Donna-Marie has received Apostolic Blessings from Pope John Paul II who has blessed her books. You can see some of Donna-Marie's writing work on the Internet via parenting columns and inspirational writings. She maintains several blogs and writes for several magazines and national newspapers, as well including L'Osservatore Romano, Magnificat magazine, the National Catholic Register, Our Sunday Visitor Newsweekly, Catholic World Report, Integrated Catholic Life and more.

The words of Mother Teresa are powerful. They reflect her deep faith, un-abiding service and complete sacrifice for others. Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle in her newest book Bringing Lent Home with Mother Teresa: Prayers, Reflections, and Activities for Families couples the words, prayers and actions of Mother Teresa into a Lenten retreat for the whole family.

Every day, the quote, reflection, prayer, story and action present a powerful message that can only lead you closer to God. Going through each day, you take on Mother Teresa's mantle of doing small things with great love. For example, on the Thursday of the Second Week of Lent: Fasting: Suggest to the children that they fast today from unkind thoughts about others and from saying unkind things. Almsgiving: Ask the children to think about a gift they can give to the Blessed Mother today - a prayer, a gesture, an act of kindness, a sacrifice.

I cannot imagine it possible to go through Lent praying with this book and remain the same person on Easter morning. Spending time with Mother Teresa humbles you before God and surrounds you in His love. I predict living Mother Teresa's words during Lent will change your life.

Donna, through the relationship she developed with Mother Teresa over 10 years, relates the words and stories of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta to our Lenten journey in a wonderful, personal way. Praying with this book during this 40-day retreat will bring you closer to the life of this Saint and deepen your faith life.

We were given this book as a gift this year & it has been a lovely addition to our whole family this season. Our kids range from teenage to newborn & the practical meditations are well-suited for every age in the house. My oldest & I like to read the history bits about Mother Teresa & the throughout the day thoughts first thing in the morning & then talk in the evening about how we applied those throughout our day. Really a wonderful tool for adding depth to any families Lent journey.

Our family is truly enjoying this new devotional for Lent. My children who are living at home range in age from 6 to 17 and we have been praying with this book in the mornings. It is 'just enough' for a busy family, also leaving time for other Lenten devotions. Highly recommended!

For the first time in my life, I can't wait for Lent! Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle's new booklet, "Bringing Lent Home with Mother Teresa," from Ave Maria Press, is an incomparably beautiful and useful guide for families to the spiritual lessons and works of mercy expressed so meaningfully in conscientious Lenten observance.

I really can't recommend this resource highly enough. At only 96 pages, it's just beautifully put together and packed with quotes from Mother Teresa and fascinating true stories about her life, insightful reflections for parents, activities for children, and more. It's quite a package and extremely affordable at $2.50. It would make a great gift for Lent for every family on anybody's gift-giving list. (I'd say it's the perfect Valentine!)

When I read Donna-Marie's work, I feel the prayerful love that goes into the writing and research. I also see on every page her humble obedience to the Magisterial authority of the Catholic Church.

I was very taken with it from the first pages and read it over several times. I found new insights and delights to enjoy with each reading. It's just so rich. I can't wait to use it with my family this Lent.

My children are young, 6, 3 and 1.5 years old. Each year proceeding up this one I have done my Lenten journey "on my own" so to speak. I always kept my eyes open for a family way of sharing Lent and nothing ever caught my eye. The entries are easily understood and simple enough for younger kids and yet they are quite meaningful for us adults. I have to say I have read every book Ms. O'Boyle has written and every time I have felt quite compelled to be the best Catholic mom I could be. This Lenten book from her is no different, and it's something I can introduce Lent to my children with. Maybe not the baby this year, but definitely the other two. I am looking forward to this journey with them and I am very inspired my Ms. O'Boyle's Fasting and Alms giving suggestions. I may have to use them outside of Lent! She makes it oh, so warm and inviting to bring your child (and self) into the Lenten season and our beautiful Catholic faith. Thank you! And God Bless! :)
