About the Author

GRACE LIN has written and illustrated several picture books about this Chinese American family (based on her own!): Dim Sum for Everyone!, Kite Flying,  Fortune Cookie Fortunes, and Thanking the Moon. Her books for older readers include the 2010 Newbery Honor winner Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, Starry River of the Sky, The Year of the Dog, The Year of the Rat, and Ling & Ting: Not Exactly the Same!

More About the Author

Hello! Thanks so much for your interest in me and my books!

I grew up in Upstate NY with my parents and 2 sisters, whom are featured in many of my books, including "Dim Sum For Everyone!" and my novels, "The Year of the Dog" and "The Year of the Rat." My mother and I were the star characters in my first book, "The Ugly Vegetables"--I cut both my sisters out of that story! They were quite upset with me and made me promise never to cut them out again. And since then, I haven't...yet.

While many of my books highlight my family, not all of them do. My Newbery Honor-winning novel "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon," is an Asian inspired fantasy that some people call a Chinese 'Wizard of Oz,' and my early reader "Ling & Ting" is inspired by the old 'Flicka, Dicka & Ricka' books I read when I was young.

I hope you enjoy my books. Please visit my website: www.gracelin.com for more info about them (behind the scene stories and pictures) as well as other amusing anecdotes!

This is a beautiful book with colorful illustrations. The text is simple and makes this a quick, informative story. Being a teacher, I could use this story in a preschool class or with older children. Grace Lin is a very gifted illustrator. My daughter and I enjoy all of her books.

Grace Lin's BRINGING IN THE NEW YEAR tells of a Chinese family who sweeps out the old year and brings spring-happiness poems, lanterns and celebrations in for the New Year. Lively color drawings bring to life the customs of one family's Chinese New Year celebrations.

the world is a classroom. I try to pick books that teach my children something at the end of the day and I love a good multi cultural book so I love grace lin. the art work alone is adorable and fun to look at but the stories are fun and informative.
