Great analysis -- a bit of a slog
This book comprehensively reviews the efforts of top school districts around the country to improve their performance. The analysis of how these districts succeeded, particularly in narrowing the achievement gap, is solid and illuminating. The writing is at times leaden. Still, its insights are worth the work.

Impressive book in the education field
As one who has supported the CITIES IN SCHOOLS nationwide program's impressive effort to improve basic education, I enthusiastically recommend Heather Zavadsky's book, "Bringing School Reform to Scale", as a very valuable guide, referencing several significant examples of best practices.
