5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for finding a balance between love and limits., July 22, 1999
This review is from: Bringing Up Kids Without Tearing Them Down How To Raise Confident, Successful Children (Paperback)
Dr. Leman presents a well thought out guide for helping develop proper discipline techniques, nurturing a child's self esteem, and teaching children how to grow into responsible, healthy adults. He gives specific ideas for handling challenges in "real world" situations. He even points out mistakes he has made and talks about things that have worked or not worked with his own kids.

Dr. Kevin Leman does an excellent job describing how to raise our kids while building thier independence and self image. He gives pratical examples and a useful list of home responsibilites for a wide range of ages. If you have kids you got to read this book. I am only sorry I did not read it earlier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Advice makes sense, December 6, 2001

This review is from: Bringing Up Kids Without Tearing Them Down How To Raise Confident, Successful Children (Paperback)
I love this book. I have many parenting books and this one is by far my favorite. The advice on discipline is priceless--no yelling or getting into major debates with your children. I have already used several of the suggestions with my niece and it has worked like a charm. Buy this book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you came from a less than functional family, read this., April 29, 2003
By A Customer
My husband and I are weeks away from having our first baby and we both been reading this book with great interest. We both come from dysfunctional families and have at least 15 parenting books --- this book is, BY FAR, the most intelligent source of parenting advice we have come across. I can barely get through a paragraph without getting excited about how much sense it all makes and how much confidence this book has instilled in me. I feel much more ready to take on the amazing responsibility of raising a child without repeating negative patterns.

5.0 out of 5 stars See the World from the Feelings of your Child, December 31, 2005

(REAL NAME)
Dr. Leman helped me see the possible feelings and thoughts that my children may be having in certain situations. He not only writes from the perspective of the parents, but also from the children. He provides examples of how parents typically respond and then provides alternatives that are more healthy and relationship-building. No matter what your situation, children need love, an understanding of their feelings, consistency and boundaries. He does a good job at encouraging these. He's a humorous writer and is easy to read. It's a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome parenting book..., January 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book helps one parent with compassionate yet firm follow-thru...addresses infancy through the teen years...a great antidote to permissive or guilt-ridden parenting. I bought this book, hardback, when my kids were in 1st and 2nd grade. They're in college now. This book was the cornerstone to most of my disciplining. I also loan my book out often and recently bought my sister this book to help her with her young family. It has common sense approaches to raising great kids. I highly recommend it.

This review is from: Bringing Up Kids Without Tearing Them Down How To Raise Confident, Successful Children (Paperback)
Book arrived much earlier than proposed date. Product appears brand new, no defeat at all except a bit old. But I don't care of an old edition with this price.

The content is about building kids' self-image, Dr. Lemen first stress out the importance of building kids' self-image which has a long term positive effect in their lifes. A good book for parents who has no idea how to build a positive self-image in their children.
