The best Christian rock band you never heard of.,

This review is from: On the Brink of It All (Audio CD)
I gave Ever Stays Red a shot in one of my furious bouts of music acquisition just a few short months back. I had never heard of them, and was in no way familiar with any of their songs. Maybe I gave a listen on MySpace. Maybe. Anyways, this has turned out to be one of the best albums I own. So good, in fact, that I was compelled to write my first review on Amazon just to make sure people don't pass them up. My roughly 6gb collection is about 60% worship (Crowder Band, Delirious, Jason Upton, etc.), 20% rock (Switchfoot, Skillet, Disciple, etc.) and the rest is pretty mellow (Jars of Clay, Shawn McDonald, Shane & Shane, etc.). Just so you know where I'm coming from musically. According to my taste, Anberlin is the most amazing Christian band walking, except I'm not sure how Christian they are, and I don't know exactly what half of their songs are getting at, and I wonder what I'm taking in every time I listen. I can't relax. But soundwise, thats my taste.
I, like one of the previous reviewers, take a LONG time to take to new CD's, let alone new artists. My poor Shawn McDonald CD sat for over a year after one disgusted listen until I finally rediscovered it. Not this one. This one was instant. So sincere and original amidst a Christian music scene that can tend to be anything but. Its anthemic - a cry for our generation, every song. No screaming with these guys, and I don't feel like its missing. Vocals are intense and expressive, with harmonies that will force you to fall in love with this band if nothing else will. Energetic and driving when its called for (and it usually is), with chords and rhythms that are just plain refreshing. I can't stand the same 'ol, and I get the feeling these guys can't either. Progressive (both spiritually and musically) for the Christian Rock genre. Also, if you get this album, notice the hooks. This band does hooks like nobody's business. They can take a song thats pretty much okay, add a hook at the end and transform the whole thing. The negative portion of that statement mainly applies to the single worship song "Glorious", which hasn't attached itself to me in the way the others have, although I applaud them breaking standard to glorify God directly via worship, but MAN that hook. It's like 30 seconds long and pretty close to the end, but it makes it all worth it. Sorry to go on like this. Lastly, the reason this band is quite possibly my all time fave, sophomore album notwithstanding, is because their message is not compromised. If I only cared about sound, they may not be quite so exalted in my collection. Or maybe they would. Hard to say. Point is, Christian music must always be about Jesus, not performance or self-exaltation. Ever Stays Red has used their collective giftings to encourage this generation to RUN after the Lord with passion and fervor (we're standing on the brink of it all for pete's sake!) For this I commend them highly. Buy this album. Now.

I bought this CD about a month ago, and I can't quit listening to it. Though I bought it for "Brink Of It All", all the other songs are very good also. These guys are earnest (you can hear it in the vocals). Their passion, straight up rock, and hopeful lyrics have made me a believer. I'm a runner, and I find myself repeating many of their tracks while I'm pounding out the miles. It's not the "wall of noise" of a lot of new modern rock, but I like the crispness and passion.
