I was playing a co-op match with a buddy for about the tenth time, and it hit me. This is just not a good game. Sure it has some things that I like;
1- The story has promise and they don't bog you down with it. 2- The animation reminds me of Borderlands (which I thoroughly enjoyed). 3- The character movement is somewhat fluid. 4- There is an impressive selection of weapons. 5- Multiplayer works better than anything else in the game (unfortunately, that's not saying much). But there were certain things that really bothered me. 1- Unlocks aren't as fun as they should be; put plainly, the various weapons suck in various ways. 2- Leveling up against bots is way too easy. 3- Frustrating battle elements; for instance, -throwing a grenade feels like you're shot-putting your lead-filled wallet to someone (and has about the same effect). -enemy bots seem to have more health and better aim than you do... and they just keep coming. -you'll be expected to perform time-consuming tasks with your back turned on an enemy spawn point. -turrets seem worthless. -power-ups from teammates seem worthless. -enemy AI medics seem to be Harvard-Med-trained SeALs; friendly AI medics are idiots ("I'm on my way... oops, sorry, I got killed!"). -where the heck am I getting shot from? 4- Single-player missions are just shallow, endless spawn-fests with little cohesion. 5- "Revolutionary" parkour movement isn't as cool as I thought it would be. 6- The Medic/Engineer/Operative concept is nice, but in execution the classes are lame, in my opinion. I debated giving this game two stars instead of three, but I know there will be some people it just clicks with (if the last game you LOVED was Resident Evil 5, give this a try). For me, the game is more compelling at $30 (which it will most certainly be in no time); but with all the other fun games that are out there I'm not sure this disc will go back in my XBox. After my buddy and I had played for awhile, my bro came online and started playing Section 8: Prejudice (a $15 XBox Live game). We switched over to that and had a blast, so I think that sums things up. UPDATE 5/18/11 -Despite my criticism and low rating (which is actually better than the average of 2.5 stars, it seems), I really liked this game at first-- I enjoyed setting up my character and the way the story about the Ark began; it wasn't until a bit later--mainly after extended exposure to the wacky AI--that it just wore me down. -When I stopped playing (after about 4 hours) I was level 16, and yet my character was hardly more capable than when I was level 1. Keep in mind the max level in this game is 20. If DLC (more $$$) doesn't increase the max level and offer better unlocks at the same time, I'm sure even people that like this game will get bored of it quickly. -There are a few things I think that could "save" this game: if you have buddies that like it (way more fun) AND they fix the multiplayer lag issues; if some good, more-challenging DLC comes out for it; if they can somehow fix the AI in an update (unlikely); and lastly, if you can get it cheap.

Great Multiplayer, Terrible Single Player,

I echo the other comments...Do not buy this game for the single player. I was looking forward to this game for a very long time because it looked to be very similar to Borderlands (which is one of my favorite games). The only similarity it has with Borderlands, is some of the art style ( and even the art isnt that similar).
Dont get confused...the entire game is multiplayer based. There essentially no single player. The best comparison is to Left For Dead, except Brink has TERRIBLE AI and is way more frustrating. Every "level" is essentially a match, with an objective. ie. plant the bomb, defuse the bomb, defend this thing, defend that thing, etc. Before and after every "level" there is a short cut scene that attempts to make it seem like a real campaign, but its not. The single player is also extremely hard because this game is very team based, and your AI doenst really do much. So you end up getting killed over and over and over by the enemy, when trying to complete an objective. I have never been so frustrated with a game ( and I love Super Meat Boy). I give the single player 1 star. It is terrible. That being said, things could be fixed if the AI was updated, but it still wouldnt be an immersive world experience. Now the online multiplayer is a different story. It is great. Extremely fun, objective based, with TONS and TONS of customization, unlockables, and gameplay. It is in between Call of Duty and Battlefield, with a completely different art style. Each match has an objective (as stated above), but what is fun about it is that its not all about killing. Each class has another purpose ie. Medic-heal teammates, engineer- hack turrets, put up barricades, etc. Because the side objectives give you points, and you are very clearly alerted what you need to do, your teammates actually help you. Which is completely the opposite of COD. It adds another level to the multiplayer, and is great for those of us who arent amazing at FPS's. Nearly infinite character customization, lots of ability unlocks, lots of guns. Overall a very very fun multiplayer experience. If this game was online only, and a $20 XBLA title, it would get 5 stars for me. It is very very fun online (even with rando online players, and probably more fun with friends). That being said, the single player is garbage. Save your money and when this game is under $20, pick it up and ignore the single player. You wont regret it.

Worst "day one" purchase in a LONG TIME!,

Wish I could give this zero stars. Ran out and bought it on the first day and I honestly can't remember the last time I regretted a full price purchase more. Gameplay is slow compared to most other FPS out there. SMART movement is nothing to write home about, I would prefer the characters run faster and just jump to this crap. Also though the actual game is simply not that fun. Mind you I played online and tried to work as a "team" so I am trying to play the game as intended, as were most other people. It is just that it is nothing more than "clump on the objective" and battle. Customization I also thought was lacking, for something they said was such a big part of the game...yeah great a few outfits in a ton of colors. Great thanks.
Best comparison I can say is to Team Fortress 2. TF2 is fun fun, and you can be a part of the team without having to chat. TF 2 has nine classes, a bunch of weapon choices, and tons of gear to wear/find/unlock. Brink somehow manages to be slower and more shallow than a many years old game that is available at a quarter of the price. I already unloaded this turd at a loss. If someone likes this game good for them. I also played Homefront and found that disappointing as well but not nearly as bad as this. Please avoid this until it is in the bargain bin, I promise it will not be long.

I have a dedicated 24Mb/s(D) and 6Mb/s(U) line that has never given me any problems (most of the time I get faster speeds)... This game apparently uses some sort of P2P type of multiplayer networking and it is VERY, VERY UNRELIABLE! I have tried to play a dozen or so games and while at times it seemed fluid enough, I haven't had a match that didn't have some sort of unplayable lag... Most matches were completely unplayable like the one included in the video. Please consider this before purchasing... the opening day patch has not fixed this issue. I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of all these hyped games that aren't finshed when they're released - this is the second timed I've been fooled, it won't happen again... just a heads up!

brink is bad. really really bad.- textures are horrendous. from the ads, trailers, screen shots, you will expect something awesome. you will be wrong. very very wrong. - all the levels seem to be fairly similar (shanty-town) - animations are jerky - color is washed out, not vibrant like the cover and screenshots suggest - there's really no story, no characters, you won't care - pop-in textures - i got up to level 10, completed challenges and unlocked several things. the unlocks, upgrades seemed to do very little. - there are a lot of weapons, but they are all similar or identical - all the bots are jumping and jerking all around so much so fast that it was pretty much impossible not to shoot my own guys half the time. - the classes, basic mechanics of this game are similar to a few other, much better, much more popular games such as Team Fortress 2. Play that instead. - the SMART (can't remember - something about free movement over random terrain) gimmick was much touted, but really doesn't do much - i think this game might have done better as a download title such as XBLA. - best thing that happened to me was the game freezing - the voice acting menagerie of irish, asian, jamaican is just bizarre - and the final weirdest thing is, the game uses a simple red vs blue color scheme, bad guys vs good guys deal, red=terrorists, blue=cops, easy enough right? nope, i was immediately confused playing on the red side, since the game always highlights all your team in blue silhouettes and enemies in red silhouettes.

Flat out one of the worse games I have ever played!!!!!! There was so much hype about this game and there should not have been. I traded it in the day after I bought it. I am a very serious gamer, so please take my advice and don't waste your time with this game.

This was recommended by a friend, 5 of us were planing weekly game nights around this game. Badly implemented multi-player stopped us from being able to do this. There is no lobby for you to form your team before starting the game. If one of your friends levels above you during play you can't invite them back into the next session they have to invite you. No mapping makes it difficult to find your way around the map and complete objectives. We also experienced so much lag we wound up having to stop playing it and play other games that had no lag issues. Thanks Amazon for allowing us to exchange it for a $31 credit!

I anticipated the release of this game for months and was greatly disappointed with it! The game boasted an array of customization and seamless offline to online integration with friends. I put about six hours into the challenges and started the campaign, I was not impressed initially but my hopes remained high. As I pressed on frustrated at the BOTs, cause I was unable to play online because PSN is down, my hopes were crushed. The bots were either completely awful, rarely assisting with any objectives and never covering you as you yourself attempt to complete every objective or they were dead on accurate, getting a head shot on you as they rounded the corner. I unlocked a few guns only to find most of the guns in each class were way to similar in specs. Customization of the weapons also fell short of my expectations. You can add a different sites, taped magazines or extended mags, front grips for accuracy or a grenade launcher, and finally you can add a flash suppressor which was mostly cosmetic but slightly decreasing the range. All of these choices are or should be standard for any FPS released now. For a game that bragged about customization you couldn't even alter the colors of your weapons, let alone have items to upgrade your weapon do next to nothing! I spoke with friends who were able to play online with the 360 version who stated there was way too much lag. The character customization was lacking as well. You could pick different hats/helments, shirts/jackets and pants. Again a game boasting customization should have done a much better job. Hopefully the lag and other glitch issues will be resolved through updates. If lag and glitch issues were resolved I think the game would be worth about $20 and the way most reviews are going this game will be in the used bin at every game store at $20 soon!

I like the mission objectives for the various classes, but the gameplay is lacking. Crysis2 and CoD are much more fun imo.

I'll keep it simple. The game looked interesting, somewhere between Mirror's Edge movement and Borderlands shooter without the dust. Many interesting components, but not a fun game. Single player story is just the multi-player map, bots, with a few cut scenes thrown in. Bots are terrible, maps are fine but few, the parkour is ok, the shooting is ok, classes are ok, its glitchy and stuttery, especially in multi-player, character design is cool. Nowhere do these pieces come together in a good game.
