Product Description

Amazon.com Review

A two-in-one unit for outdoor cooks, the Grill King from Brinkmann is more than just a grill. It's also a charcoal smoker. In spite of this versatility, the Grill King offers a no-frills operation, with a generously roomy structure and sturdy components. The heavy-gauge steel frame, able to hold up to 50 pounds of food at a time, features a welded body and a hinged lid. The height-adjustable charcoal tray accommodates both grilling and smoking and provides over 340 square inches of total cooking surface. Four adjustable air vents on the Grill King—-two on the body and two on the lid—-are the key to its versatility. They are fitted with simple tab-style covers for control over smoke, heat, and circulation. The Grill King's lid-mounted heat indicator shows whether inside temperatures are warm, hot, or ideal, and the large wooden handle stays cool throughout usage. A wooden side shelf accommodates platters and condiments; a metal storage rack below is perfect for charcoal and accessories. The Grill King comes with two durable wheels for easy transport and a fitted grill cover for storage. --Emily Bedard

3.0 out of 5 stars Burned Once Too Much, June 1, 2003

After waiting a couple of months for delivery I was hoping that the wait would've been worth it. However, I find that when you are preparing the charcoal for cooking the adjustable hooks have a tendency to fall into the charcoal. I've had to use oven mitts often to get the metal hooks to stay upright. I finally found a way to keep them upright and that is by using aluminum foil and constructing it in such a way as to wrap part of the hooks onto the outside of the grill. This is the only way I can get them to stay upright until I add the grill for the cooking. I've gotten slightly burned because even with using the mitts, those metal hooks get quite hot. So I finally fixed that problem. Also the hooks take up alot of room when you lift the charcoal pan to the highest level which causes problems in turning the food.
I also agree that the thermometer doesn't ever get into the "ideal" range even when I've used so much coals for some cooking. I purchased an oven themometer and found that the hottest the grill ever got inside was 375 degrees.
Sorrry but I will probably be using this grill for this summer season only and then purchase another one for next season.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not get hot enough!!, March 24, 2003

The charcoal rack fits flush into the bottom housing. As the picture shows (and I didn't realize until I put it together!) the bottom is narrower than the surface area of the grill, so when the charcoal rack is raised it only heats 2/3 of the grill. I couldn't get the temperature gauge to read 'Ideal' even though the grill did get hot enough to cook on. The only benefit to this design is the ability to cook directly and indirectly at the same time. For this reason I gave it a '3' but if you just want to do direct grilling you cannot use the entire grill surface. I'm not sure how well it will work as a smoker; it just doesn't seem to get hot enough inside the cooking chamber!

Added 5/3/03 - I've since used this as a slow cooker/smoker and with enough charcoal the heat gauge did go past 'warm' into 'ideal'. Additionally, the wooden side table is an excellent accessory.

Added 8/07/03 - I agree with the other review; the adjustable hooks do fall into the charcoal every time! It is an annoyance. I'll have to try the aluminum foil trick!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this grill, April 19, 2009

This review is from: Brinkmann 810-3210-0 Grill King (Lawn & Patio)
This is the best grill I have ever owned. Too bad I can not find another one, I would buy it to have a spare. I was looking for parts when I found this site. My Brinkmann GK deluxe is still in great shape, I just want to have an extra rack. The only problem I found with it was the vent covers were too loose to shut off the air flow after cooking, and the charcoal would continue to burn. I just used four pieces of magnetic material (like the stuff used for refrigerator magnets) to cover the vents, and now a load of charcoal lasts for many grillings. I also attached a rotisserie after market unit and extended the spit rod for it. Now I can grill two chickens at a time. As I stated above, I love this grill, it's the next best birthday present my wife ever bought for me.
