great patio smoker/grill,
This review is from: Brinkmann 810-5305-6 Smoke'N Grill Charcoal Smoker and Grill, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
If your interested in grilling and smoking, but only have limited yard/patio space, then this is the grill to get.
I also bought the Brinkmann "Smokeshop Electric Converter" and I use that for smoking my meats. Its significantly easier than charcoal for smoking because you don't have to constantly adjust the coals. Then for grilling I use charcoal so I can get the high temps I want. I've been using it for over a year now, and its been great. The stainless is the way to go because it wont rust out. I feel like I have the best of both worlds with electric smoking/charcoal grilling. The only negatives are these minor issues: 1) The temp gauge doesn't show the actual temp. Its just a meter of Cold, Ideal, Hot. Get a good digital thermometer. 3) Doesn't come with the cover. It may be worth buying ones of the Brinkmann "Value packs" instead. I think it comes with a bunch of the accessories that you'll probably want regardless.

11/23/09 - RUN AWAY!!! I wish I could change my rating. The smoker doesn't even attempt to be a little airtight. I used a half bag of charcoal smoking a small chicken. I bought a $60 smoker that works MUCH better and still works as a grill. Now I won't go broke buying charcoal.
The smoker works well as a smoker and as a grill but I am disappointed in the thickness of the "stainless steel." It's basically sheet metal, and thin at that. (The picture makes the item look more substanial) And the heat has altered the stainless steel look somewhat. A painted version would be better. So the functionality is good but I feel I paid too much at ~$142. The one other item I dislike about it is that you have to add coals through a small door while smoking. Others I have used allow one to lift off the top and drop them in. Basically I'm just trying to prove to myself that I will smoke and grill a lot before I drop $750 for a Green Egg. I'd stick to the cheaper non-stainless model if I was going to try it again.

The water pan not stainless steel, or aluminum, it looks like it is plain steel and painted over with black non- stick coating. Mine came chipped and it only took few days that it rusted where the metal was bare. I am sceptical to put water in it. The charcoal pan isn' t stainless steel either, it will develop chips in the paint and will rust horribly.Another serious problem is that it is diffiuclt to light the charcoals and place the charcoal pan in its place inside the smoker. IT is situated so low, it' s exptremely dangerous. The charcoals should be lit while the pan is inside which is deep down and it makes it tough to be able light the charcoals. Anothe thing, with lit charcoals it' s tough to place the water pan and fill it with water without accidentally touchign the perimeter of the smoker and develop a burn. They are situated deep inside the smoker. Teh same with the first lower grill. It should have some bigger sideways openign to load/ unload it.
