Let me start by saying that I love my Brinkmann grill. I've had their Smoke N Grill Pro for about 5 years now and its always performed beautifully. So, when I was ordering some more trays for the smoker from the Brinkmann site, I decided to spring for the rotisserie attachment too. Shame on me for not doing any research, but I assumed that the official rotisserie attachment for my grill would be as stellar as the grill itself. Boy was I wrong. I don't see how this thing could possibly be designed any worse and still operate (though it even operating is a matter for discussion).

I'd never rotisseried before, so I carefully read all the instructions that came with the kit. There was installation instructions and a weight limit, but that was pretty much the extent of the directions. To learn to actually cook something, YouTube came to the rescue. DadCooksDinner has great stuff on everything rotisserie if you are looking. I bought a small chicken, under 5 lbs, and since the instructions said it had a 12 lb limit, I figured I was well within tolerances. I carefully prepped it, trussed it, spitted it...and during the spitting process the first design failure became obvious. You see, because this is a "universal" kit, they are trying to make something that will fit every grill, and every grill width. So the spit itself comes in multiple different pieces that you have to screw together to make the size your grill needs. The problem is that the spit is mostly round, with only 1 flat edge for the spit screws to land securely. And for something that is going to be spinning endlessly, you really want it to be secure so the item doesn't simply hang in one place while the spit turns inside it and not turning the meat.
