With 96 pieces, the BRIO Fire Station kit is a bit complicated to construct. However, the wordless, illustrated instructions are extremely clear, and many of the pieces simply slot into the 10-by-6.5-inch gray base. Plastic pliers are provided for assembly. The articulated two-part fire engine is 11 inches long and has a ladder that can be raised 7 inches. Two 2.75-inch-tall firefighters are in charge of operations. Although some of the station walls and other parts are made of wood, most of the pieces are plastic, which is unusual in a BRIO toy. --Richard Farr
