4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised!
This engine works pretty well especially considering our two year loads it up with five cars, I think it could handle a couple more. It is a little slow making the hill on his table set, but it does the job. The battery life seems pretty good, we bought the extra battery so when one goes dead the other can be charged which saves on the cost of batteries. One battery...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but slightly disappointing
We bought it about a year ago. My wife thinks it's OK, but it is less fast than the non-rechargeable trains. Those are more fun! The train derails more often, as stated earlier. I think that might be due to uneven weight on the wheels, because of the battery. It's definitely not as nice to play with as with the normal ones, and I'm not being picky!

One battery makes it through a good day of playing off an on. The instructions say 8 hours of play, but that is without pulling any cars. The only real draw back with the train is that the back wheels swivel for turning and tend to get off track on one sharp corner, but our two year old quickly caught on to helping it to prevent derailing. This train is extremely quiet, you can barely hear it running. The directions for charging are a little unclear for the length of time needed for initial charge, but other than that no real issues. Our son has an Imaginarium sight and sound train table purchased from Toys R Us which we had some trouble finding a train that was compatible, but this train works great. It is a small engine and there were no reviews so we were a little pesimistic, but once we got it up and running we were pleasantly surprised at its performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars The little engine that could, January 12, 2008

We ordered this for our two-year old grandson. He has an extensive set of Brio train parts that he has inherited. This is the first motorized piece for him. Soon, we hope, he will develop the motor skills to put the train cars on the track and we are sure that this engine will still be running ready to give him hours (or minutes) of enjoyment. We especially like the rechargable aspect.

A lot of people seem to be having troubles with this engine. And yes, if you expect the world from it, you'll be disappointed. NO COMPANY MAKES AN ENGINE THAT CAN TACKLE EVERY HILL. Get used to that. This little guy is no exception. It can manage a car or two, but after that, yes it will get stuck. And yes, it can derail now and then, but that's a function of how well the tracks line up and how thought out the track layout is. I've only seen this guy have trouble with very tight curves. So I put my son's engine on a single level (no hills) and a very wide oval (no tight curves). Now, he can turn it on, and it'll go til the batteries die, no problems at all. Some people are just too picky and demanding. It's a great little engine for the money.

We bought this train because it was a Brio and we are very disappointed. It constantly derails. We are very unhappy with BRIO for making such a Bad Product.
