Hey, my son loves it. Brio quality is a cut above the rest. and I have others but the detail, the durability of the wood does not match the Brio..Really.
My son loves it and so do I. It can take some knocks!
Rechargeable train is the way to go as kids will often leave the train on and use up all the energy. So go recharge and save on teh dumping of toxic batteries. Note, the on/off switch on the train is not very tactile and hard to distinguish betwn on and off. The only problem. But the rest is great.

My husband & I purchased 2 brio sets (countryside and mountain)for our 2 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas. These are her very first train sets. The rechargeable engine is a brilliant idea. She doesn't even use the manual (you have to push it) one that came with the Mountain set. The only downside is that it is so slow. Especially when you add the cars... it takes 5 minutes to make it around the track! But I read reviews beforehand and new this might be an issue. At her age, it's actually about perfect, but when she gets a little older, I will have to get a new engine that is a little speedier!

My daughter has a lot of fun putting the horses into the wagon while the train is moving. Rechargeable battery train is nice but not that sturdy. One cable came loose within a month after my toddler roughed it up. It still runs though and is still intact. Overall a very entertaining set, especially if your child likes horses.
