Book Description

Universe of Fashion September 15, 1998
The end of World War II saw a dramatic change in the geography of men's fashion--staid, conservative British gave way to Italy's light, supple, colorful and daring styles. In 1952, when the rite of the runway was still exclusively for women, Brioni presented the first men's fashion show. Since then, Brioni has dressed many of the world's most recognizable men, from Gable to Wayne, Pacino to Baldwin, and Bond.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice little book for the collector - but thin on substance, November 12, 2008
This review is from: Brioni (Universe of Fashion) (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book for those interested in Brioni, but with little more than 10 pages of actual text, it is not much more than a collector's item. There are over 50 pages of photos and illustrations which document the founders, the workshop/factory, garment construction, and of course style of clothing through the years. The book also includes a 2 page chronology of milestones that the company has seen.

As far as the actual text, the book begins by discussing the background of post WWII in relation to the men's clothing culture in Italy. Chenoune then delves into the history and evolution of Brioni, beginning with it's founding in 1945. In 1952, Brioni became the first designer to stage a men's fashion show, and from there the brand began it's meteoric rise to what it has become today: one of the most revered and prestigious Italian luxury brands in the world.

Again, a nice book to have for the Brioni aficionado, but for those who would like a book about Brioni with more depth and detail, we would recommend Brioni: Fifty Years of Style by Christina Giorgetti, which is a large 296 page book with 355 illustrations and is rich in history and text.
