Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This water-filtration system installs without tools on household faucets to eliminate nearly all foul tastes and odors from drinking, cooking, baby-formula, and ice-cube water. Though it does not purify unsafe drinking water, its activated charcoal filter cartridge does capture 99.9% of cryptosporidium and giardia microbes and largely eliminates certain herbicides, pesticides, and solvents. A filter cartridge (one included) works for four months or 100 gallons; an electronic light glows red when there's about 20 gallons of filtering power remaining, and flashes red when a cartridge needs replacing. A handle on the back of the unit turns to permit unfiltered water to flow from the faucet, either as a stream or a spray, so the filter cartridge is not wasted when you wash dishes. The filter works only for water up to 100 degrees. A 9-quart plastic water pitcher with lid (11 inches high) is included. Clean exterior of filter system and pitcher with a mild detergent and a soft sponge or cloth. --Fred Brack

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product support - free replacement for broken light, December 19, 2002

This review is from: Brita 42202 Ultra Faucet Filter, with Pitcher (Tools & Hardware)
I bought my Brita faucet filter at least a couple years ago. Recently, the light telling me whether it was good or to replace the filter stopped working. I went to the Brita website, emailed their customer service with the problem asking for suggestions. They emailed me back telling me how to reset it, basically removing the filter and replacing it on the unit 2-3 times in w/i 30 seconds. The email said if it didn't work to call their 800# with a reference code. It didn't work so I called and they mailed me out a brand new one for free. No hassles or anything. It was just great customer service.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good temporary solution to filtering your drinking water, July 2, 2002
This review is from: Brita 42202 Ultra Faucet Filter, with Pitcher (Tools & Hardware)
Our heavily chlorinated water doesn't taste good for drinking or making coffee and tea. So we filter our water. We started with the Brita filter pitcher. But this is inconvenient--you constantly need to fill up the pitcher and it takes up space in the fridge.

We plan to put in a real system one of these days (under the sink) but at the prices plumbers charge, this project is on hold for a while.

We bought one to use while in temporary quarters, then moved it into our new house.

The plus side:
1. Water tastes good. Makes coffee taste better.
2. The cost is reasonable.
3. Installation is ... easy.
4. Filtered water is on demand.
5. It can be moved from house to summer vacation cabin.

The minus side:
1. They leak after a while
2. If you forget to push it out of the way and turn on the hot water, you ruin the filter. (oops.)
3. It sits on your sink faucet looking a bit ungainly--if you have a particularly stylish kitchen.

Not a bad interim solution to filtration, but ultimately I wanted a more permanent system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Filter!, January 3, 2003

This review is from: Brita 42202 Ultra Faucet Filter, with Pitcher (Tools & Hardware)
I used to use the Brita pitcher for years. I loved the quality of the water, but I didn't like that it took up counter space (or fridge space), and I didn't like waiting for the water to filter - (a big pain if you want to make a pitcher of lemonade and there's only a pint of water left in the pitcher).

The faucet filter solves both of those problems. I can get as much filtered water as I need without waiting for it to filter. And I have one less thing on the counter. Perfect!

I'm happy with the quality of the water, which I rate using the "tea test". I filter water, boil it in a clean vessel (free of mineral deposits), then make a cup of Orange Pekoe tea. If the brewed tea is clear, then I'm happy. If it's cloudy, then I'm not happy. I first tried a Pur faucet filter and got cloudy tea. With the Brita faucet filter, the tea is clear every time.

I have had none of the problems that a previous reviewer mentioned -- no leaking or problems with the lights. I am curious to know, however, how they can tell that their filter isn't working.
