I wanted a replacement for my old Brita pitcher and I wanted something simple, without the need for fancy-shmancy batteries/electronics - after all this is just a PITCHER!

This one was the one most similar to the one I had. However, unlike the one I had before, this one does not keep the lid on when there is water in the reservoir trickling through the filter. This means that you can't use the pitcher easily while it's refilling unless you remember to push the lid down with one hand while you pour with the other. Not doing so will result in a disastrous spill each time as the lid will slip off pouring water all over.

Not sure how/why, but the earlier version of this pitcher had a nicely designed fit that this would not happen. Had it been available, I would have purchased it.

This has worked great for me over the last several years, and I have become accustomed to the great-tasting water I get from the Brita pitcher (yes, you will be able to tell the difference!). I have begun drinking more water because it tastes better, and everyone would agree that is certainly a benefit worth my 4 stars... However, I have a (rather small) side-by-side fridge and with milk, juice, etc., etc., on the same shelf, this pitcher takes up too much room. I am currently shopping for another model of Brita filtration pitcher to replace it with a little narrower profile.

I'm a college student. This pitcher is big enough that my roommate and I can use both use it without running down the hall to the sink every two minutes. We fill it usually once or twice per day, tops. However, it's not so bit that it won't fit in our tiny fridge. I'm not saying that it doesn't take up a fair amount of space, but it takes up less space (and costs a LOT less!) than stocking our fridge with bottled water.

We've actually started using mason jars to hold our filtered water ($5 for a dozen jars beats $5 each for a decent water bottle), and we can't tell the difference between the water out of this and bottled Poland Springs (but you definitely CAN tell the difference between the filtered water and tap water!). Much more cost effective, much better for the environment.

I was a little skeptical after reading some of the negative reviews, but none of the problems other people seem to be having are difficult to avoid:

-There are a lot of complaints about charcoal bits in the water. However, the only two times I've had that happen were when I didn't follow the directions when setting up the filter, and when I let the filter dry out. As long as I soak and cycle the filter properly and keep enough water in the pitcher so that the bottom of the filter is wet all the time (you can still drain it as long as you fill it up soon), I haven't had a problem. Even if a few bits get in the bottom reservoir (it's normal to have some in the top), it's not an issue. You can't taste them, and we ARE carbon based, after all!

-I'd read that people spill water out of the top reservoir. Solution: wait for the water to filter (5 mins, tops) before you pour water.

-Lastly, I've read that it falls apart when it's being used. I've never once had this problem.

I love the classic because it is good looking and it works well. It doesn't leak and the top doesn't fall off if it is put on right. Match arrow, arrow to arrow. When you pour and your fingers are on the handle it is very easy to rest your thumb on the arrows on the handle/cover, offers security and a nice method of handling the pitcher.

This is a two-stage pitcher, I use it for coffee and tea and cooking.

I use a Pur three-stage pitcher for drinking water.

For looks and handling, I think the Classic Brita has it all over the Pur but have learned to live with wanting the three-stage process for some things, wish that Brita would consider a three stage filtering system.

I remember the Brita filter from 20 years ago and this isnt it. The cover has a tiny lip, so it can easily fall out when pouring. And the plastic overall is hilariously thin. Taking the parts off to clean it offers a risk of the whole thing cracking. I've tried the other Brita pitchers and they all have issues of one sort or another. But this pitcher would have been 3 stars if it were make of thicker plastic. I rarely give one star reviews but this deserves it.

The filtration works fine and the water tastes good, BUT this design is so annoying that I'll be getting something else. You're not supposed to let the filter dry out, which means that you need to keep water in the reservoir above it.

However, when you use the pitcher, the lid falls off and the water in the reservoir spills out, leaving you with like 5 glasses of water all over everything. I learned to keep my hand on top of the lid while pouring, but inevitably, there's a time where I'm in a rush, forget to do this, and then need to scramble with 10 paper towels to dry things up when I'm already running late.

This is such a basic design flaw that I don't understand how this product went to market like this. Why didn't Brita have some test subjects use this for maybe 5 minutes before putting this into production? This pitcher is functional if you remember to keep your hand on the lid when you pour from it, so I guess it merits more than a 1 star review, but I find it ridiculous that a large company can't iron out such an obvious flaw. They should spend 10 cents more pure unit and have a locking latch on the cover so that this doesn't happen.
