This review is from: Brita 42633 On Tap Black Chrome Faucet Filtration System
I have been using this filter for a few years now. It is so much better than filling up a pitcher and wasting room in the fridge. I've never had an issue with leaks or being able to attach it easily and properly. I had the white filter system first, but switched to the chrome this year to match the faucet. The indicator light went out the other day and I called the Brita 800 number. Great customer service! They are sending me out a new unit free of charge. Can't beat that. I love the convenience, but it was the customer service that prompted me to write this review.

I have had it for about two months now and nothing has gone wrong. I went ahead and ordered the metal adapters before installing as per another customer's suggestion. It works great! No complaints at all.

I like this product,However I will have to go to A plumbing supply store to get an adapter for a metric pipe reducer!I will then be able to connect the filter to the sink faucet!

I have purchased two of these, one at home and one at the office, and I will never buy another one (nor should you). The threads on the filter where it attaches to the plastic faucet adapter that Brita also provides will not tighten properly. As you try to tighten it, the pressure causes it to skip to a looser thread. Even if you remove the plastic seal (aka washer) to allow you more leeway to tighten, it will not stay attached to the cheap plastic adapter...I can't tell you how many times the pressure has built up so much that the entire filter rockets off the faucet spraying cold water in my face. If I was not awake before...
So I just today purchased a second one for my office...thinking that perhaps maybe I got a bad one at home...I mean they can't all possibly made so poorly...I was wrong. I have the same exact problem with the new one. Please don't waste your money on this piece of crap.

Brits faucet filter,
This review is from: Brita 42633 On Tap Black Chrome Faucet Filtration System
I've had this (all plastic) unit for a couple of years and would recommend it with reservations. First, taste: Ok, but not the "river pure" taste I prefer. IMO, there is just a bit of residual taste from all the components it uses to filter the impurities out of the water. Second, make sure you have adapters on hand - and a SPECIAL CAUTION - you must order them directly from Brita as they aren't included with the packaged product. Third - another SPECIAL CAUTION - be extremely careful during installation, for it is very easy to strip the plastic threads which mate the device to the faucet. Plastic-to-metal threads are rarely a good idea, and they aren't a good idea here. Once the threads have been compromised, you will find in difficult at best to keep filter on the faucet without leaks, or worse, popping off and spraying water all over the place. Fourth, the switch to alternate tap with filtered water, is difficult to operate, and doesn't do a very good jub of totally switching off one method or the other. And the switch gets sticky - I must now used a pliers to switch from one method to the other.I would agree, however, with the reviewer who had high marks for Brita's customer service; they were helpful and polite. I am not going to order another plastic model; i.e., I'm going to buy a chrome/black model, to see it that is any improvement.

I see a lot of reviewers are having trouble with the base popping off. I sure know what they're talking about, but I've been using Brita tap filters for at least 10 years and never have this trouble anymore if I follow these rules. And I don't use the metal connector, I use the plastic one without any trouble. (I think the metal one will wear the threads on my faucet, so I avoid it.) Also, I use the white one, not this black one, but I think they're the same.1. When you install the base onto the faucet, hold the base in a very level position. As you turn the ring to screw it on, you should feel no resistance at all. If you do, then you're not holding the base in the correct position. It has to be perfectly lined up. 2. Install the base with the filter as far back on the left side as possible, so that it rests against the left side of your sink's spigot. This will prevent it from moving around when you move the lever to switch into filter mode. 3. Use care when switching the settings. When you switch into filter mode make sure the water is off! Do not switch while the water is running. This causes too much sudden pressure on the filter base. 4. When you switch from one setting to the other, steady the base with one hand while switching with the other, and do so in such a way that the base doesn't twist or torque at all. 5. Watch for any hint of leaking around the connection area, and when it looks the slightest bit less than tight, it's time for a little maintenance. Remove the filter base and clean the screen inside (it gets clogged periodically and this is what causes pressure build up. If you're using the adapter, before replacing the base, be sure to sure to check that it is still screwed in tight. Also be sure the little washer on it is in place. 6. Last but not least, never run the water faster than it can come out the filter! The filter can only filter about 3/8 inch stream of water. To run the tap any faster than this causes unnecessary water pressure. 7. One more tip for getting more life out of your cartridges. Have a water pitcher or 2, and filter a lot at once. This reduces the amount of time you run water through it to clean it before getting your drinking water, and reduces the amount of stuff for it to filter out per amount of water that goes through it. If you follow these rules, you'll be golden :) |
