The Advocate 70 G3 is purposefully designed and engineered to minimize the forward movement of your child's head during a frontal impact to reduce the risk of head injury with the following revolutionary Britax head safety technologies: Base with SafeCell Technology designed to compress in a crash, significantly lowering the center of gravity and counteracting the forward rotation of the child seat. Integrated Steel Bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing of the child seat during a crash. Energy Absorbing Versa Tether features a two point attachment and staged release tether webbing to slow the forward movement and reduce the crash forces reaching the child. HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology are affixed to the seat shell to ensure proper positioning while SafeCells compress to manage energy and provide resistance to the forward movement of your child in a crash.

Side Impact Cushion Technology Diverts Crash Forces

Offering both Side Impact Cushion Technology and True Side Impact Protection, the ADVOCATE 70-G3 provides complete protection. Side Impact Cushion Technology, comprised of energy-absorbing cushions on both sides of the exterior of the seat, compress upon impact to divert 45% of the crash energy away from your child while providing protection for the adjacent passenger.

Additionally, the BRITAX True Side Impact Protection system guards your child's head and limits injury by shielding from vehicle intrusion and absorbing crash energy. The car seat has deep sidewalls lined with energy-absorbing EPP foam. This combination diverts crash force energy away from your child while creating a barrier against possible intruding objects. The head restraint offers a double layer of energy-absorbing foam and keeps your child's neck and spine properly aligned in the seat.

HUGS Chest Pads Keep Child Secure

The BRITAX ADVOCATE 70-G3 comes with HUGS (Harness Ultra-Guard System) chest pads which are affixed to the car seat for proper positioning and protection during a collision or sudden stop. These pads are made of SafeCell material, which compresses to manage energy and provide resistance as your child moves forward in a crash, thereby helping to prevent your child from coming in contact with the front seats or other vehicle parts.

SafeCell Technology for Advanced Protection

The base of the ADVOCATE 70-G3 includes SafeCell Technology comprised of SafeCells, an engineered material designed to compress in a crash. This compression lowers the center of gravity to counteract forward rotation of the seat, helping to minimize the risk of head injury during a collision.

Located in the sides of the seat shell, integrated steel bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle and prevent forward flexing of the seat during a crash to reduce the risk of head injury.

In the event of a sudden stop, the Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether strap restricts forward movement and reduces crash forces with patented staged-release webbing and 2-point attachment. This webbing securely anchors the top of your child seat to your vehicle in either rear- or forward-facing positions.

Click & Safe Technology for the Safest Fit

It's vital that harnesses are properly snug. The ADVOCATE 70-G3 assists in the process of securing your child with the Click & Safe Snug Harness Indicator feature, which provides an audible sound when you're tightening the harness to indicate when it's in the range of appropriate snugness.

No-Rethread Harness System and Comfort Features

The tangle-free, five-point harness allows for multiple height positions and can be adjusted without dismantling the harness or removing the car seat from the vehicle. Two buckle positions provide a snug, comfortable fit as your child grows. Harness holders prevent the straps from getting in the way when you're putting your child in the seat, while an EZ-Buckle system maintains the harness buckle in a forward position to prevent your child from sitting on it when first entering the seat. High-density comfort foam provides an extra layer of cushioning, while rear- and forward-facing recline options help your child relax on the journey. And the plush cover comes complete with matching comfort pads and an infant body pillow to keep children of all ages comfortable and secure.

Easy Installation and Airplane-Approved Design

The ADVOCATE 70-G3 takes the guesswork out of installing your car seat thanks to a range of convenience features. An anti-slip, contoured base grips and protects the vehicle seat. Premium lower LATCH connectors make for a quick, simple, and tight installation, while the push-button allows you to easily uninstall the car seat. And easy-to-access built-in lock-offs provide a secure installation when using the vehicle lap and shoulder belt.

The ADVOCATE 70-G3 has a durable cover that can be removed for easy cleaning without uninstalling the car seat. It's also approved for airplane travel.

I did a lot of research before I got this car seat and this is our first Britax/convertible car seat. When we received it, it was in a box with holes in it for easy carrying. We did open everything and left it "air out" for about a week in our breezeway. It did not have a strong smell, even though it was manufactured only the month before (July), but we did it to try and "burn off" some of the toxins. The Opus Gray is scaled at "Medium" for toxins, which there aren't many of Britax car seats that are lower unless you get an infant car seat.

STRAPS:

I was happy to see how easy it was to make it "fit" your child. We have a 8 month old (about 20lbs and 29in long), and he fits in it just fine. Now we did have to remove the padding on the straps because they don't bend well and made it impossible to strap him in correctly. I agree with another reviewer, when they said that they would not recommend a child smaller than this. I really don't see how any child smaller than 20lbs would fit in this car seat properly with the HUGS and padding. Britax recommends having the HUGS left on unless 12lbs or under. Again I don't see how that would be possible since they are pretty big. Other than that, the straps are nice and my husband LOVES the Click & Safe feature! He now feels confident that our son is in correctly. It does take him a bit longer to put him in this car seat vs the infant but with the infant, you had the straps set at a length and kept it there until you couldn't squeeze your child in it any longer.

I did read on other reviews about their child chewing on the HUGS. Ours hasn't done that...YET.

My husband is an attorney who specializes in personal injury (including car accidents!), and when we got pregnant 3 years ago Britax was the brand his boss reccomended.

The first seat we owned was the Chaperone infant carrier and base. That thing is built like a tank! We started noticing that it made all other baby carrier brands look like a doll's toy compared to it. After that, we were hooked on Britax. When our son outgrew that seat, we purchased the Advocate 70-CS convertible seat. We loved that (so did he!) and we used it for over a year. He was rear-facing until after his 2nd birthday.

Recently my son and I were in a pretty serious car accident. At the scene of the wreck, we were complimented by both the fire and police officers for having such a great seat. My son only had a burn on his neck from the car seat strap. I ordered this seat (Advocate 70-G3) to replace his seat that was in the wreck. It arrived just a few days after I ordered it and I am more than pleased with it.

I will say this: if you have a child that is 20 lbs or heavier, you will need to call Britax and get the longer harness straps for this seat. My in-laws have this seat in their truck and I'd noticed that it was more difficult to loosen the harness than on the Advocate 70-CS. After placing my order for this seat, I called Britax customer service and asked them about it. They said that there are actually two sets of straps for this seat and that they would ship me the 20+ lb straps free of charge. Those have made a huge difference.

WHen I took this seat to the firestation to get installed the Firemen told me that this was the best seat money can buy. When he first responds to accidents, children in Britax are much less injured than in other car seats. That is good enough for me.

As background, since 2007 we have bought a Britax Boulevard, Boulevard CS, and two of the Advocate CS, so we are very familiar with Britax and their products. We like to get new top-of-the-line Britax seats every 3 years for our kids as the features are updated. It made sense then to gravitate towards the Advocate 70 G3 as the reviews were great, and we had such a great track record with these seats.

When we first saw the seats, we were very impressed with the solid construction and the updated features, including having the buckle always forward, the ease of adjusting the height now compared to the previous knob, and even details like the LATCH storage on the base.

However, as others have seen previously, the harnesses that came with ours were severely limited. I read the instructions cover to cover (at least the English part!) and also made sure that the harness was maximized, meaning all the insertion points were at the maximum slack. We had a very hard time getting our 6 year old into the seat, and he is safely within the 49" and 70 pound limits and fits comfortably in the older Advocate CS model. Also the HUGS system, while great in theory, made it so we could not lower the grey plastic portions (around the chest buckle) very much, so they ended up digging into our son's chin instead of being around his chest.

To make sure we weren't going crazy, we compared the harness on this model to our Advocate CS at maximum slack, and there are at least 4-5 less inches of material in this model, which explains my disappointment in the car seats we received.
