True Side Impact Protection Diverts Crash Forces

The BRITAX True Side Impact Protection system guards your child's head and limits injury by shielding from vehicle intrusion and absorbing crash energy. The car seat has deep sidewalls lined with energy-absorbing EPP foam. This combination diverts crash force energy away from your child while creating a barrier against possible intruding objects. The head restraint offers a double layer of energy-absorbing foam and keeps your child's neck and spine properly aligned in the seat.

HUGS Chest Pads Keep Child Secure

The BRITAX BOULEVARD 70-G3 comes with HUGS (Harness Ultra-Guard System) chest pads which are affixed to the car seat for proper positioning and protection during a collision or sudden stop. These chest pads are made of SafeCell material, which compresses to manage energy and provide resistance as your child moves forward in a crash, thereby helping to prevent your child from coming in contact with the front seats or other vehicle parts.

SafeCell Technology for Advanced Protection

The base of the BOULEVARD 70-G3includes SafeCell Technology comprised of SafeCells, an engineered material designed to compress in a crash. This compression lowers the center of gravity to counteract forward rotation of the seat, helping to minimize the risk of head injury during a collision.

Located in the sides of the seat shell, integrated steel bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle and prevent forward flexing of the seat during a crash to reduce the risk of head injury.

In the event of a sudden stop, the Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether strap restricts forward movement and reduces crash forces with patented staged-release webbing and 2-point attachment. This webbing securely anchors the top of your child seat to your vehicle in either rear- or forward-facing positions.

No-Rethread Harness System and Comfort Features

The tangle-free, five-point harness allows for multiple height positions and can be adjusted without dismantling the harness or removing the car seat from the vehicle. Two buckle positions provide a snug, comfortable fit as your child grows. Harness holders prevent the straps from getting in the way when you're putting your child in the seat, while an EZ-Buckle system maintains the harness buckle in a forward position to prevent your child from sitting on it when first entering the seat. High-density comfort foam provides an extra layer of premium cushioning, while rear- and forward-facing recline options help your child relax on the journey. And the plush cover comes with matching comfort pads and an infant body pillow to keep children of all ages comfortable and secure.

Easy Installation and Airplane-Approved Design

The BOULEVARD 70-G3 takes all the guesswork out of installing your car seat thanks to a range of convenience features. An anti-slip, contoured base grips and protects the vehicle seat. Premium lower LATCH connectors make for a quick, simple, and tight installation, while the push-button allows you to easily uninstall the car seat. And easy-to-access built-in lock-offs provide a secure installation when using the vehicle lap and shoulder belt.

The BOULEVARD 70-G3 has a durable cover that can be removed for easy cleaning without uninstalling the car seat. It's also approved for airplane travel.

We bought this convertible car seat for my 8 month old daughter. One of the selling points is that it is convertible, or reversible from rear-facing to forward-facing as the child grows. We bought the first generation of the same model, the Britax Boulevard 70, for my son in 2010 and we've been so happy with the first one that when my second child came along, we decided to get the G3 for her in the "Caitlin" style.

THE CAITLIN
From the manufacturer's pictures posted above, it appears that the "Caitlin" model is mostly blue. The seat is actually a mixture of lavender and blue-gray leaves, light silver, and dark background with purple bead trim. I posted a few pictures to give better detail. Even though the colors don't match Amazon's picture, they're still very nice, subdued colors for a girl's seat.

THE SEAT ITSELF
- Newborn (5 lbs) to 70 lbs: I love the versatility the seat offers. It works for children from newborn all the way up to 70 lbs! In my naivety as a new mom, if I would have known that you didn't have to buy a portable infant car seat and upgrade at 1 year to a "toddler" seat, I would have saved my money on the first (Graco) seat and just bought this one. They provide extra padding that can be removed as the child grows to allow a newborn to ride supported in the seat.
- Padding: Lots of padding adds to the comfort of the seat. In shopping around, I saw seats that have very little padding and fabric over hard foam. This padding in this seat is much more comfortable for my daughter. The side impact bumpers are even nice as they provide head support for when she sleeps.
- Headrest and Straps Adjustment: In other seats I've had, I've had to take the seat apart to adjust the straps, but this seat doesn't require the extra effort.

I did a moderate amount of research before purchasing this for my daughter at age 2. (I did keep her rear facing in her infant car seat until then). I know Britax gets good reviews. We do like the "wings"-she can rest her head on them and nap for long trips. The reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because the straps were very tight and it was tough getting my daughter in and out. She weighs 27 lb at almost 3 years old (not very big). I couldn't imagine how a 70 lb child could fit in this. With a fleece or coat on it was almost impossible to get her in. Then, last week-the plastic/rubber hugs strap thing broke. So, I called Britax and told them about the broken hugs strap and also my difficulties with the too short straps. They told me there are "longer straps" so they mailed me the "longer straps" and new hugs strap. It was kind of annoying taking the old straps out and putting the new straps in but I did do it myself without having to call Britax for help. The new straps do not have that cumbersome black/thin strap underneath that makes it hard to move the chest clip around.
Bottom line: ask Britax for the "longer strap" so your 25lb + child can enjoy the carseat. Register your product so Britax can help you ASAP when something breaks.
We do like the Caitlin color, it's a pretty light lavender/grey.

After reading all the great reviews and researching for hours, I decided this seat was the best option for what I was looking for. I HATE it!! Its pretty and seems solidly built (very heavy!) but it is NOT user friendly. It was very difficult to install - unless you are very strong it was very difficult for me to get tight enough on the seat. I used to have a Chicco Keyfit when my daughter was an infant and this was SO MUCH easier to install. For rear installation, the level line did not help me put the seat at the right angle. I even got an actual level out and in that position my 18 month old daughter's head would fall forward! She couldn't lean back at all. I ended up putting a towel underneath and adjusting the angle so she could at least rest her head. It's not level but all well.
I got a Costco Scenera for Grandma's car for a fraction of the price and like that one much better plus it actuall comes with a cup holder. You have to pay $15 for one that goes with this carseat. The Costco Scenera's level line was much better and the angle worked perfect for my daugher's comfort. And I'm not ignorant, I watched many videos online about installing carseats to make sure I was doing it right - its just the Britax level line is not accurate for rear installation.

Finally, the shoulder straps are next to impossible to adjust. You have to wiggle your fingers underneath the fabric cover to find the lever to pull out the straps. It is not easy. And finally, when pulling out the straps to get your child in, you have to make sure not to pull the black attachment strap underneath... so you have to separate the two and only pull on the upper strap. This is both inconvenient and difficult to maneuver with a wiggly toddler. I will NOT recommend this carseat to anyone.

Only positive thing I like is the chest buckle. It slides easily up and down to the correct location without any effort.

I have 2 older Britax seats - the pavillion and the advocate and have had no problems with those. I got these for my 2.5 year old who is 28 pounds and it is extremely difficult getting her in and out of the car seat due to the very tight straps... if she has a jacket on - or even a light sweater- we can barely buckle her in... going to call and ask Britax for longer straps - I hope they aren't that difficult about it or I am going to have to return the seat
