True Side Impact Protection Diverts Crash Forces

The BRITAX True Side Impact Protection system guards your child's head and limits injury by shielding from vehicle intrusion and absorbing crash energy. The car seat has deep sidewalls lined with energy-absorbing EPP foam. This combination diverts crash force energy away from your child while creating a barrier against possible intruding objects. The head restraint offers a double layer of energy-absorbing foam and keeps your child's neck and spine properly aligned in the seat.

HUGS Chest Pads Keep Child Secure

The BRITAX BOULEVARD 70-G3 comes with HUGS (Harness Ultra-Guard System) chest pads which are affixed to the car seat for proper positioning and protection during a collision or sudden stop. These chest pads are made of SafeCell material, which compresses to manage energy and provide resistance as your child moves forward in a crash, thereby helping to prevent your child from coming in contact with the front seats or other vehicle parts.

SafeCell Technology for Advanced Protection

The base of the BOULEVARD 70-G3includes SafeCell Technology comprised of SafeCells, an engineered material designed to compress in a crash. This compression lowers the center of gravity to counteract forward rotation of the seat, helping to minimize the risk of head injury during a collision.

Located in the sides of the seat shell, integrated steel bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle and prevent forward flexing of the seat during a crash to reduce the risk of head injury.

In the event of a sudden stop, the Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether strap restricts forward movement and reduces crash forces with patented staged-release webbing and 2-point attachment. This webbing securely anchors the top of your child seat to your vehicle in either rear- or forward-facing positions.

No-Rethread Harness System and Comfort Features

The tangle-free, five-point harness allows for multiple height positions and can be adjusted without dismantling the harness or removing the car seat from the vehicle. Two buckle positions provide a snug, comfortable fit as your child grows. Harness holders prevent the straps from getting in the way when you're putting your child in the seat, while an EZ-Buckle system maintains the harness buckle in a forward position to prevent your child from sitting on it when first entering the seat. High-density comfort foam provides an extra layer of premium cushioning, while rear- and forward-facing recline options help your child relax on the journey. And the plush cover comes with matching comfort pads and an infant body pillow to keep children of all ages comfortable and secure.

Easy Installation and Airplane-Approved Design

The BOULEVARD 70-G3 takes all the guesswork out of installing your car seat thanks to a range of convenience features. An anti-slip, contoured base grips and protects the vehicle seat. Premium lower LATCH connectors make for a quick, simple, and tight installation, while the push-button allows you to easily uninstall the car seat. And easy-to-access built-in lock-offs provide a secure installation when using the vehicle lap and shoulder belt.

The BOULEVARD 70-G3 has a durable cover that can be removed for easy cleaning without uninstalling the car seat. It's also approved for airplane travel.

This car seat saved my child last night. I slid on ice and had a side impact into a tree-on his side. The car is totaled and he does not even have a scratch. He is just over 2, 25 lbs and he was rearfacing. I am ordering another now!

We just purchased this seat for our eight month old son. We are still planning on using his Combi Shuttle 35 seat (just in my husband's car) to save having to move seats back and forth. I asked all of our friends with young children about their experiences with convertible seats, and after hearing their stories we decided that we wanted a Britax. They have an awesome safety reputation, and everyone we asked said that it was worth it to just buy the best first.

Besides the many obvious safety features, the things that swayed me were:
-No re-thread straps
-Easily removed cover (no uninstalling when it's time to launder!)
-High weight limit
-"Tru Safe" head protection

As stated above, we bought a Combi brand infant seat, and it had all of the same great features. I was really, really spoiled with the easily adjustable harness and I was not about to downgrade to something more complicated. The Side Impact protection was a selling point, too. The Boulevard was the lowest cost model to offer the same level of protection that our infant seat did. Britax has plenty of models that offer great side impact protection, but this was the one that met both our safety requirements and budget. The only thing I wish this model had was the Click and Safe feature, but to be honest, you can go one step up and buy the Pavilion model if you can afford it.

The user guide was a bit daunting at first, but after reading it completely twice, consulting my car's owner manual and wrestling the seat into the car, it was very easy to install! We have it rear facing, obviously, since our son is under a year old. I even had the installation checked at our local fire station and the inspector told me it was installed perfectly! I feel as though if I can do it, it's pretty easy!

There are so many choices when it comes to car seats! We wanted the safest we could buy without going overboard (for us the Britax Advocate was a just a little overboard). Here's why we picked this one:

1. Very easy to install. We have the LATCH system and I think it took maybe 15 minutes to install, and that was using the rear tether (not necessary but highly recommended). We had it inspected at a free inspection event at the hospital near us and they said it looked great.

2. True Side Impact Protection (TSIP). This is one of the only differences between the Boulevard 70-G3 & Marathon 70-G3 (that and the HUGS technology is a little different. Britax has a great comparison tool on their site). We wanted the extra protection because we may have it on one of the outside positions at some point (right now it's in the middle) and because it helps keep our baby's spine straighter. For us it was worth the extra $20-$30.

3. Rear facing maximum height/weight. It is now recommended that children are rear-facing until age two, but we are going to keep our son rear facing for as long as possible, yes, even if his legs are bent. The little ones just don't have strong enough neck muscles for forward facing.

I read a lot of complaints about the HUGS on the straps and recommendations by other reviewers to remove them (in other places than Amazon) . I really don't think this is necessary. They can be a little cumbersome, especially if you are used to the Chicco Keyfit straps (which we were) but all you need to do is lift them with your fingers while you're pulling on the center strap. If that doesn't work you just need to tighten the straps a little at a time and move the HUGS down a few times.

The single most important thing about a car seat is to have the child in it, and strapped in properly. Britax seems to have forgotten this when they designed the HUGS straps. Quite simply, the straps are nearly impossible to adjust. I purchased both a Marathon and a Boulevard, and while the Boulevard has more safety features, if you can't adjust the straps properly, it is not nearly as safe as the Marathon. I would definitely recommend the Marathon over this product.

I had no problem installing it (forward facing), it seems comfortable, but my kid is not the biggest, and he seems pretty snug in the seat, I can imagine a larger (i.e. more stocky) child would have difficulty fitting in. Again, a safety issue if the child doesn't fit properly. I can't see how my kid will ever fit in this seat at anywhere near the height and/or weight limitations of this seat. He is 36 inches and about 30lbs. I doubt he will fit in this seat for another year.

Sometimes simpler is better. I was very disappointed in this product.

My boy outgrew his bucket seat at around 10 months, so after doing lots of research and looking at baby bargains, I decided to purchase this seat.
Pros:
Really easy to install. Latch system is pretty easy to click on and tighten. There are tightening straps on both sides, makes it easy to tighten (unlike the Recaro, which I also have)
Fabric is nice, although tends to make baby very hot. It's a velour type fabric. Seems like it might stain easily, though I haven't had the experience yet. Baby boy so far is pretty clean.

Cons:
Straps are hard to tighten and loosen. The HUGS system just seems to get in the way.

On the whole, I would have given this car seat 3-4 stars.

What makes this the most RIDICULOUS and LAME design is....the straps that it comes with (that you strap your baby in) is only for babies less than 20 lbs. You have to CALL Britax, and ask them to send you straps for babies larger than 20lbs. (even those seem too short, maybe you call again if the second set is too short?) Now seeing as this car seat boasts that it can handle toddlers/kids up to 70 lbs, and most parents would buy this seat after baby out grows the bucket, around 20 lbs, don't you think it's smart to have straps that can adjust to 70lbs???!!!!
And I'm pretty sure more parents won't even know that they need to call for longer straps because the instruction manual says NOTHING about it! How did I know? I read Amazon reviews. (Thank goodness for Amazon!) So I can see most parents getting fed up with short straps on babies that are 21 lbs.
Dumb? yes. Waste of money to send additional straps? YES!!!! Would I purchase this seat again? NO!!!!!
