True Side Impact Protection Diverts Crash Forces

The BRITAX True Side Impact Protection system guards your child's head and limits injury by shielding from vehicle intrusion and absorbing crash energy. The car seat has deep sidewalls lined with energy-absorbing EPP foam. This combination diverts crash force energy away from your child while creating a barrier against possible intruding objects. The head restraint offers a double layer of energy-absorbing foam and keeps your child's neck and spine properly aligned in the seat.

HUGS Chest Pads Keep Child Secure

The BRITAX BOULEVARD 70-G3 comes with HUGS (Harness Ultra-Guard System) chest pads which are affixed to the car seat for proper positioning and protection during a collision or sudden stop. These chest pads are made of SafeCell material, which compresses to manage energy and provide resistance as your child moves forward in a crash, thereby helping to prevent your child from coming in contact with the front seats or other vehicle parts.

SafeCell Technology for Advanced Protection

The base of the BOULEVARD 70-G3includes SafeCell Technology comprised of SafeCells, an engineered material designed to compress in a crash. This compression lowers the center of gravity to counteract forward rotation of the seat, helping to minimize the risk of head injury during a collision.

Located in the sides of the seat shell, integrated steel bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle and prevent forward flexing of the seat during a crash to reduce the risk of head injury.

In the event of a sudden stop, the Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether strap restricts forward movement and reduces crash forces with patented staged-release webbing and 2-point attachment. This webbing securely anchors the top of your child seat to your vehicle in either rear- or forward-facing positions.

No-Rethread Harness System and Comfort Features

The tangle-free, five-point harness allows for multiple height positions and can be adjusted without dismantling the harness or removing the car seat from the vehicle. Two buckle positions provide a snug, comfortable fit as your child grows. Harness holders prevent the straps from getting in the way when you're putting your child in the seat, while an EZ-Buckle system maintains the harness buckle in a forward position to prevent your child from sitting on it when first entering the seat. High-density comfort foam provides an extra layer of premium cushioning, while rear- and forward-facing recline options help your child relax on the journey. And the plush cover comes with matching comfort pads and an infant body pillow to keep children of all ages comfortable and secure.

Easy Installation and Airplane-Approved Design

The BOULEVARD 70-G3 takes all the guesswork out of installing your car seat thanks to a range of convenience features. An anti-slip, contoured base grips and protects the vehicle seat. Premium lower LATCH connectors make for a quick, simple, and tight installation, while the push-button allows you to easily uninstall the car seat. And easy-to-access built-in lock-offs provide a secure installation when using the vehicle lap and shoulder belt.

The BOULEVARD 70-G3 has a durable cover that can be removed for easy cleaning without uninstalling the car seat. It's also approved for airplane travel.

There are so many choices when it comes to car seats! We wanted the safest we could buy without going overboard (for us the Britax Advocate was a just a little overboard). Here's why we picked this one:

1. Very easy to install. We have the LATCH system and I think it took maybe 15 minutes to install, and that was using the rear tether (not necessary but highly recommended). We had it inspected at a free inspection event at the hospital near us and they said it looked great.

2. True Side Impact Protection (TSIP). This is one of the only differences between the Boulevard 70-G3 & Marathon 70-G3 (that and the HUGS technology is a little different. Britax has a great comparison tool on their site). We wanted the extra protection because we may have it on one of the outside positions at some point (right now it's in the middle) and because it helps keep our baby's spine straighter. For us it was worth the extra $20-$30.

3. Rear facing maximum height/weight. It is now recommended that children are rear-facing until age two, but we are going to keep our son rear facing for as long as possible, yes, even if his legs are bent. The little ones just don't have strong enough neck muscles for forward facing.

I read a lot of complaints about the HUGS on the straps and recommendations by other reviewers to remove them (in other places than Amazon) . I really don't think this is necessary. They can be a little cumbersome, especially if you are used to the Chicco Keyfit straps (which we were) but all you need to do is lift them with your fingers while you're pulling on the center strap. If that doesn't work you just need to tighten the straps a little at a time and move the HUGS down a few times.

This is the 4th britax oonvertible car seat I have purchased, the 5th one I have owned. It is by far the smallest of all. My 3.5 year old was already too tall to use the seat when it arrived, even though he is almost 40lbs below the total weight and 12" below the total height.
This weekend we put all 5 britax side by side and had our toddlder sit in each one. The 2nd oldest we have (2009 marathon) is the tallest (from butt to shoulder), followed by the marathon 70 (2011-2012).
I am sure the seat is as safe as all of the other models, and it looks nice and comfy. But I am disappointed that the size range for my toddler has dropped so dramatically.

We bought this seat because, like most parents, we wanted the best, safest thing for our daughter. The whole thing is just a bit much. My main complaint is that it is a bit of a struggle getting her in and out of the seat because the straps have the rubber pieces on them. This struggle only increases with a cranky baby/toddler. It's a good seat, it just seems over-engineered. We use this one in my wife's Toyota Hilander and we have an Evenflo in my sedan. The Evenflo seems plenty safe and is much easier to use/install.

We bought this car seat about a 15 months ago for our first child for the second vehicle. At that time he just turned two. We have a Boulevard 70 CS in the first car and are satisfied with it. This one, not so much. While it probably still protects our son well enough, it is a pain to get him in and/or out of the seat, because (as others have mentioned) the straps are too short, it is too hard to actually loosen them and the HUGS pads (one already broke) are hard and uncomfortable.
Also, we are missing the "click" feature that the CS had, which lets you tighten the straps without over- or under-tightening them.

If you want to have a pro on the seat: It has a nice color...

Pros: It installs rock solid.

Cons: The side-impact head pads, the new HUGS pads, and the extra strap connected to the HUGS pads are all annoying. The straps on this require more force to tighten and loosen. The side-impact head pads make it much more difficult to get kids in and out of the seat when it is rear facing. I had to turn it front facing as soon as possible just so I would be able to use this seat. All these features make for a more difficult to use safety seat, compared to our old-style Britax Marathon Classic that we use rear-facing for our younger son.

Given the choice again, I might choose the Britax Marathon G3, or another brand. For rear facing, definitely look for something that does not have side-impact head pads that impede your ability to put your kid in the seat and take him out.

Bought two of these, one for each car. They seem very safe and secure which is top priority. Seat is cushioned for comfort. Velcro strap holders are not lined up well with the harnesses so you have to really stretch the straps to get them to touch the Velcro holders. Material doesn't breath very well.....kid gets hot/sweaty in the summer. HUGS harnesses take a fair amount of effort to adjust. Decent car seat, but the extra features (which push the price higher compared to more basic seats) are just so-so.

I looked long and hard before I decided to buy the Britax Boulevard 70 G3 Convertible Car Seat. At 11 months, my daughter was about 21 lbs and it was becoming difficult for me to carry her and the infant car seat that came with her Graco travel system. When I got the Britax seat, I pulled it out of the box to familiarize myself with the functions. I had a really hard time operating the incline lever but since that's not something I do frequently, it's really a non-issue. The seat installed very quickly easily rear-facing in my 2007 Subaru Outback. My Graco infant carrier with base took up a ton of space in my car and resulted in the passenger seat being pushed way forward. The Britax seat actually takes up less space so my passengers no longer have to sit with their knees in the dashboard. Some reviewers had issue with the straps when placing their child in the seat but I didn't find it much different than the Graco. There are extra smaller straps under the main straps so you just need to make sure your child's arm is under both straps and not in between.

The main reason I give this car seat 4 stars instead of 5 is the length of the straps. As mentioned in many reviews, they are very short. My daughter just barely fits in the seat at 11 months. I took other reviewers' advice and called Britax to request longer straps. It was clear to me that this is a frequent request because they processed my order quickly and sent the longer straps via UPS and I had them in hand 2 days later. (Make sure you have the product details such as serial number, batch, etc.) I haven't installed the longer straps yet but Britax included detailed instructions so it's not a big area of concern.

Overall, I have no complaints or major concerns about this car seat.
