4.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for safety! March 5, 2012
Color Name:Black
I bought this carseat for my infant because it is top of the line when it comes to safety. As far as safety, this carseat gets 5 stars from me. First off, the carseat has an anti-rebound bar which prevents the carrier from rebounding into the seat of the car after the initial impact of the crash. The videos on the Britax website show in detail how the anti-rebound bar works. Secondly, the carseat has side impact protection unlike any other infant seat on the market. Basically, there is extra support around the head area. Not only is this great in a crash, but it's perfect for little babies who don't have neck control & end up with their head slumping in their carseat. This extra support helps my little girl keep her head upright and comfortable. My husband and I considered Britax B-Safe Infant Car Seat, Red but decided on the Chaperone because of the side impact protection.

I only gave the carseat 4 stars because it has some less than perfect aspects, which I am willing to tolerate for a seat with such high safety ratings. The seat is big. Because of the rebound bar, the carseat is longer than most infant carseats & takes up more room in the backseat. I drive a 2012 Mazda5. The carseat fits but the front passenger has to give up some extra leg room. Unless you are fairly tall, we've found that there is plenty of space for the front passenger. My husband drives a 2010 Prius, & his car has a little less space than mine, but it's still functionable in his car.

The carseat is a little heavy, but all infant carriers are heavy to lug around. The handle is also ergonomically designed so it's flat across the top of the handle (rather than rounded) so that you can more easier carry it in the crook of your arm.

I know this carseat gets some rough reviews, but if you can see past the bulkiness, it's top of the line for safety. And to me, that's the #1 factor in choosing a carseat for my child.

As a first time parents my husband and I knew nothing about infant carriers. After months of research (from day one of finding out we were expecting) we both agreed this was the best choice. The safety features of this infant carrier, to us, out weight the "inconveniences" of other's complaints. The base installation into our Chevy Equinox and F250 were very easy and with thte base/carrier together they fit just fine. (My husband is 6'2 and does not have to adjust the passenger seat in my chevy). As far as the complaints about shopping carts and dinning high-chairs, you should never have an infant carrier on the front of a shopping cart (even if it says they are specially made for it, they aren't) and restaurants will accomodate space for your carrier/stroller combination so there is no need to "create a contraption" to hold the carrier as you eat. So the fact that while in the carrier, on the road, your child is as safe as can be is the only thing that should matter.

When the recall notice came out we followed the simple directions and in less than 2 minutes on the phone with customer service our seat was registered and we were informed we purchased before the recall date. The man was very friendly.
We registered for the Baby Trend Snap-n-Go stroller to use while our daughter was going to be in the carseat. However because we liked the Britax seat so much we decided to research again the Britax strollers. We decided during the 8th month to return the Snap-n-Go and ordered the Britax B-Agile from Amazon. (Awesome stroller!! Very light weight! I'm 9mo pregnant and able fold and go with one hand!)We are so happy we made that change. Before the stroller arrived I went to the Britax website to see exactly how the carrier connects to the stroller. I found that if you order them seperately you do need to have the "click-n-go" system sent to you. Britax sends it to you for free. Since the stroller had not arrived yet I was worried they could not help me since it was not registered. I called Britax anyway to see if they could get it in the mail as I was afraid it would take a few weeks. I did not have my carrier information with me and she was able to pull everything up by my name from the first time we registered. She double checked all of our information and said they would be in the mail the next day and sure enough 3 days later we had the package. She was really nice and wished us the best of luck with our new addition to the family. Talk about customer service! They are 2 for 2 so far.

I put everything together in a matter of minutes and my husband and I are very pleased with it all!! I have been practicing removing the carrier from the base and then from the stroller. It's all so simple. I will be having a C-Section in less than 2 weeks and I feel that as soon as I am able to do things for myself, I will be just fine when the hubby is not around.

4.0 out of 5 stars Safe choice for the baby March 13, 2012
By MD

We have a black and silver Chaperone infant carrier bought in 2011. We chose it as it has high safety due to the design, anti rebound bar, head support... Overall pleased with the seat as the baby is safe, the head and neck are well supported (compared to a lot of other brands). This is a bit heavy seat and it is a bit difficult to put the harness over the shoulders, difficult to move the chest clip (maybe that is how it is supposed to be). Easy to take off the cover and clean them. The infant insert for babies was very useful till the baby reached the appropriate weight. There might be a problem with bigger or heavier babies as we had difficulty to put our baby in the seat with two layers of clothes in winter (fleece jacket and pants over the sleep and play).
Had a couple of issues in the first three months with the seat as one of the clips held in a plastic retainer became loose (the plastic retainer broke off from the bottom). The second issue was with the velcro being too short and not being able to hold the back support. Britax agreed to replace the seat cover for the velcro issue, however they wanted the seat to be used with a loose clip (and a rattling noise). We didn't want to use a seat which started breaking apart in three months (there was a possibility of the second clip also breaking like the first one). The car seat inspection center had also not seen such a case and recommended to get a replacement as there was a possibility of further damage. Amazon has excellent service (and best prices) and replaced the seat in a day without hassles.
We are using the seat with Britax B Ready stroller and very happy with the choice. The Stroller is very easy to use, especially with the Chaperone.
The seat gets four stars because of safety, if the other issues are resolved, it would make the five stars.
