I have a trailer for my toddler for my bike but wanted a seat as well. I just started looking at seats when I had the chance to try, test and review this product. This is my first Child Bike Seat I ever tried. First, I was concerned it would not fit on my bike. We have 2 here and one it would not work with. The other just barely made it. I recommend you check first for compatibility but I'm sure this is a similar issue with other bike seats. Instructions were easy to follow and setup/install was a breeze. I did it myself. I was skeptical on how the seat gets attached but I realize all bike seats get attached the same way. I like how it can be removed with ease and put back in in a matter of seconds. My daughter is 20m and was the test subject for this. The seat seemed very comfortable for her, her first time in a seat a such. It has a slight recline and adjusts in height for the shoulder straps to buckle her in. This was not an issue for her, and it even went over her bike helmet so I didn't need to take her helmet off just to get the straps on. Next was the feet straps. They adjust in height as well to accommodate how long there legs are - again nice feature and easy to use. The straps go over her sneakers to keep her feet from kicking mommy. I wasn't sure how she would like it and expected a screaming kid and movement from her making me hesitant about peddling but she did not care at all, in fact I think it felt comfortable for her. Next time I put her in she leaned down to remind me to put the straps on her feet!

I wasn't sure what to expect from the added weight on the back or how it would throw off the balance and such. I slowly started up and down my street for trials. My daughter just sat there loving it.

...that's what sets this seat apart.

There are of course some other nice features, but that is the main one. The SUPER nice thing about it is that you only need to buy another bracket to switch this to a different bike. Too bad those brackets are so expensive, at forty bucks ea. at the time of this review.

For instance, it reclines, and the side head pad area is height-adjustable. This also seems to be the only seat that can be used with kids down to 9 mos. old. (9-12 mos. they recommend checking with your pediatrician; the child has to be able to hold his/her head up easily)

Installation was not hard, took me about 40 minutes, taking careful time to do each step. Following the instructions is a must, or you will be frustrated. For example, when I was test-fitting the seat rails into the quick-release bracket, I had a heck of a time getting it to lock in place. But once I tightened the bracket mounts fully, it was just perfect. This was in the instructions, a bit later in the process.

The seat can also be slid back and forth along the rails, to balance it properly. You see the weight of the child makes the rails flex a bit, which also acts as a suspension system for the seat. It works great.

On the first ride with my daughter, she screamed for 5 minutes; just something new she didn't like. Then, she relaxed a little and enjoyed the show. But the end of the ride, I felt her head slump forward against my butt; she was out like a light, gently rocked and bounced to sleep on that springy seat.

All the buckles and straps are well thought-out. I expected this, after buying two Britax car seats and a stroller.

Other bike seats are rigidly mounted to the bike somehow, so even with some cushioning, they will yield a more jarring ride to the kid than this one. I'm glad I spent the extra money for this one.

I'd buy this again in a second.

I can review in a couple sentences: the seat is typical Britax - very good quality, sturdy, and handsome. It is a bit bouncy which disrupts the bike more than rack mounted seats, but the kid is super comfortable. It could protect my kid's arms and shoulders better in a crash, but hopefully I won't need to test that.

The clamp locks to a notch in the back of one support strut and the front of the other. When you tighten the clamp around the frame, there is a gap between the two halves of the clamp. If this gap is too narrow, the notch in the back of one rod won't lock. If it is too wide, the notch in the front of the other rod won't lock.

It is a difference of just a few tenths of an inch. A little plastic tool shaped like a "T" comes with the clamp (ours was missing this tool). It is ESSENTIAL that you use this to measure the gap. Get the gap right, and the seat locks firmly and securely. Get it wrong and it will not lock on one or both sides.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Prior to Britax I tried Bell Cocoon, and I generally liked that seat. Britax rated up to the same weight, but is significantly more expensive and has more features such as an adjustable back height and reclining back. I thought the materials are good and the build quality is solid. The seat fits my 17" frame Diamondback Menona, and is not an obstruction in any way except blocking the rear blinking light behind my seat.

Initially, I thought the way the seat connects to the bike was interesting, as it required much less installation than Bell Cocoon did. Basically, all that is somewhat permanently needs to be attached to the bike is the lock that you see in the picture at the end of the chrome posts. The lock comes with an adapter and three sets of 2-each inserts to accommodate for the various frame tube diameter. There chrome bars are then inserted into the lock and a spring loaded latch is supposed to catch and prevent them from coming out. The seat is then can easily be attached and detached.

I had problems with the spring loaded latch actually catching the notches. It worked well on the ground, but once installed it would not latch. I tried everything I could think of to fix the problem. Moving the lock higher or lower on the frame, trying both #32 and #35 adapter inserts, and making sure the lock is not skewed. Nothing worked. In one position I was able to move the latch into closed position by hand and that's when I noticed that, when the lock is installed and tightened, the spring that moves latch into the closed position did not seem to operate properly. Inserting the seat also required a lot of jiggling it, which was causing the bike, supported by a kick stand, to almost fall.
