  • Safecell technology features safecells designed to compress in a crash, significantly lowering the center of gravity and counteracting the forward rotation of the child seat which normally propels the child toward the front seat
  • Integrated steel bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing of the child seat during a crash
  • Energy-absorbing versa-tether features a staged-release tether webbing to slow the forward movement, reducing the crash forces reaching the child, and a two-point attachment to minimize forward rotation while anchoring the top of the child seat
  • Side Impact Protection comprised of deep side walls lined with energy-absorbing EPP foam distributes crash forces, shields from vehicle intrusion, and contains the head, neck and body
  • Tangle-Free, Five-Point Harness distributes crash forces across the strongest parts of the body and provides a secure fit

This is a great car seat. It fits well in my Honda CRV and has a nice, compact design that leaves plenty of room in the back seat. It was pretty easy to install, and I appreciate the added safety features.

As some noted, the crotch strap is a bit short and I am concerned it may present an issue in the future as my son gets older. I also wonder if the narrowness of the car seat, which is currently an asset, will be TOO narrow for my son's shoulders. Time will tell.

In all, I wish I'd shelled out the extra money and gone with this one first. I initially purchased the First Years convertible car seat, but the straps on that one were impossible to use. The Britax Marathon is the right size, has great safety features and is easy to use. I definitely recommend it.

I recently ordered 2 Britax Marathon 70 car seats for my twin 14mo olds. The 2 units arrived a couple of days earlier than the expected delievey date. The cost on Amazon was much cheaper than Toys R Us. After I took them out of the box all I had to do was a few, very minor adjustments to the straps and snapped them into my 2008 Dodge Caravan (middle bucket seats)foward facing. Done. They fit great. It was so easy. Prior to these car seats I owned 2 Peg Perego SIP 30/30 (Which were also great seats) but my kids had out grown them. The Britax seats were much easier to setup and install into the van than the Peg Perego seats. We took a test drive with the new seats and my twins fell asleep in them within 20 min. They really enjoyed them. Lots of padding and comfort. Open style so the kids can look outside the van windows, something I feel they really enjoyed. Overall I am very pleased with my purchace. Well worth the money

Britax carseats are very toxic. They have some of the highest levels of fire retardants, lead, bpa, etc. I learned about this after using it for some time. If you buy one, wash the entire cover with warm water and vinegar. Also, buy a few months before use and leave in the garage to off gas. It is pretty pathetic that we have to take it upon ourselves to minimize cancer causing toxins in our children's products. How do these companies even sleep at night and why are these horrible chemicals even legal??? So frustrating!!

Our 7.5 month old little girl hasn't missed a meal with us, and outgrew her infant carrier (by length). Like many others we literally spent hours researching the various options for seats. We narrowed it down to 2 brands (Britax and Evenflo Symphony 65) and then two models (Britax Marathon & Boulevard). We ultimately decided on the Marathon, based in large part that some users said that the extra padding of the Boulevard can obstruct the child's view, and of course that the Marathon by its own right was deemed extremely safe). We ordered online for $209 + free shipping and no tax (*Note that Britax is releasing new versions of all their seats in July 2012, which is likely why the prices on these were so significantly reduced; but if you want the "latest and greatest" you may want to hold off for a few weeks).

Following are our impressions so far of the Britax Marathon 70:

- Very solid seat, well-built, Made in USA (stamp on ours says it was made in North Carolina)
- Fairly heavy; due to relatively easy install you could potentially move this seat daily, but it may feel like a chore due to its size, especially for some of the smaller moms out there;
- Installation: I mentioned "easy install", but no thanks can be given to the owners manual for this (apparently the bar has been set pretty low for the people who write instruction manuals in general. heh). Was just one of those deals where you have to read a sentence 3-4 times and you're still not 100% what they're talking about. Anyway, at the end of the day if you have a vehicle with the LATCH and Tether connections (which by law will be in any vehicle after 2002) then installation is really easy.

i tend to research my baby products extensively, and this carseat was hands down the most highly recommended one on the internet from multiple reliable sources. we love this carseat, it was very easy to setup and install in our 2010 nissan altima sedan. the construction is very solid, and the operation of all of the harnesses i smooth and easy to use. our 1 year old son seems to be very comfortable in it. the safety ratings on this carseat are very high, so God forbid we ever put that to the test i am very confident in this carseats safety features. the height adjustment of the shoulder straps is also a nice feature, as you do not have to remove anything or take off any buckles, just squeeze a lever and slide it to the desired height. tightening and releasing the harness is effortless. highly recommended! if we ever come across any issues with this seat i will update this review, but as of now its GREAT!

We went through a lot of trouble to find a convertible seat that got a good rear-facing fit in our 2005 Subaru Outback (apparently the Outback is one of the hardest cars to fit a rear-facing convertible). We were reluctant to spend the money on a Britax at first, but in the end we are so glad we did! It installed so tight and secure, I know my daughter is safe. In addition, it still leaves plenty of leg room for the passenger (we have it in the outboard position)--more room than even her infant carrier left. Finally, once we put her in the seat at nearly 13 months, we wished we had gotten it months before because she was so much more comfortable in it. Parents always complain that extended rear-facing is impossible becasuse children are uncomfortable and fussy, but this seat, even in the rear-facing position, has significantly decreased the amount of car tantrums we had with her infant seat and the cheaper convertible we tried.

I would recommend this seat to anyone serious about extended rear-facing (and who wouldn't be given the research and the fact that it is 5 times safer?) and also to anyone with a 2005-2008 Outback.
