Book Description

Men-at-Arms June 15, 1977
The uniform of the British Army underwent many changes between 1965 and 1980. This book catalogues these changes and outlines in detail the many regimental distinctions which exist throughout this old and prestigious army. Among the formations examined are the Household Division, the Royal Armoured Corps, the Scottish Division, the Queen's Division, the King's Division, the Prince of Wales's Division, the Light Division and the Brigade of Gurkhas. The text is backed by numerous photographs and eight colour plates vividly depicting the nuances of the army's combat and service dress.

5.0 out of 5 stars BD Out, SD In, DPM on the way., December 29, 2001
This review is from: The British Army 1965-80 : Combat and Service Dress (Men at Arms Series, 71) (Paperback)
If you know what all that means then you need this book. If not, stop reading now. Published in 1977, this book is a snapshot of the British Army as it was in 1976. It consists of O B listings of the major units and their sub units.
All is covered herein except the officers' mess dress, and the white and red ceremonial uniforms. These, though beloved of students of the British Army are so seldom seen and are so complicated in the details of their regimental distinctions, that, like the old Indian Army, one would need a multi volume encyclopedia to cover the subject well.
Instead this concentrates on the Service dress orders which replaced the BD, jungle greens, and khaki drill of the WW II period and later.
Very little on individual equipment so look elsewhere for that.
