Book Description

Men-at-Arms May 8, 2005
Although Britain's greatest commitment of land forces was on the Western Front during World War I (1914-1918), British, Empire and Dominion troops also fought in other theatres of operations – and in some cases continued to fight there after the Armistice had ended hostilities in the West. This last of our series of three titles describes these far-flung campaigns, in Italy, the Balkans, the Middle East, several parts of Africa, Russia, China, and even the North-West Frontier of India. The text is illustrated with contemporary photographs, and with meticulous colour plates of British, African, Indian and Australian troops, in the uniforms and equipment used on battle fronts from the desert sands to the snows of north Russia.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...beautifully illustrated and the eight color plates show off a variety of WWI uniforms/equipment that are appropriate for armies that fought in the RCW...fills a very necessary spot in my wargaming library... As always, Osprey books form the first line of any 'attack' on a new period of study!" -HMG Reviewing Stand

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes World War I Come Alive, April 20, 2008

This review is from: The British Army in World War I (3): The Eastern Fronts (Men-at-Arms) (Paperback)
This book was invaluable in helping me to come up with just the right uniform for my character Edward Ware to don when he shipped out to Gallipoli in 1915. He stands on the docks at Liverpool wearing a Khaki Drill Service Dress uniform made from sand colored twilled cotton cloth. This uniform is pictured on plate B between p 24 and p. 33. This is the sort of book that makes World War I come alive for the reader. Those Who Dream By Day
