4.0 out of 5 stars Good old fashioned Harlequin
The titled and the description are completely inaccurate. The hero, while very successful, is not represented as a billionare. And there is no affair to speak of.

What we have here is a good old fasioned romance. The kind that got me hooked on Harlequins over 20 years ago. There are no repetitive steamy sex scenes and no sophisticated alpha male trying to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a typical Harlequin hero
I'm torn on this book which but generally disappointed which is why I gave it 2 stars. In one sense, I liked that it had characters that were not the cookie cutter Harlequin Presents stereotypes, which can get very tiresome. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not a typical Harlequin hero, June 25, 2008

I'm torn on this book which but generally disappointed which is why I gave it 2 stars. In one sense, I liked that it had characters that were not the cookie cutter Harlequin Presents stereotypes, which can get very tiresome. I definitely appreciated that the heroine was a normal, working woman of 29 with no crazy pretenses of being virginal. Her love interest/hero also had some echos of imperfections and showed a lot of wit and non-stereotypical behaviors. But if you are looking for the typical Harlequin romance this is not it. First off, the title is SO DECEPTIVE. Yes, the action takes place in Britain but that is the only connection. Not once does the book even hit that the hero is as rich as a billionaire...in fact it seems highly unlikely given that he is a writer, albeit a successful one. Otherwise, I guess I was also disappointed that there was not enough romance in this novel. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the development of the story (the story is better than in other romances) but with just 180 pages I was beginning to wonder when the true romance would kick in and it never really did. There is only one real kissing scene in the first third of the book and after that, nothing. I agree with the other reviewer that it was all very rushed in the last few pages. So all in all, a 2 star rating.

And yes, the name of the heroine is awful.

1.0 out of 5 stars HEROINE NAMED FOR A YEAST INFECTION, March 4, 2009

I really had to laugh after I finished this really weak book because the name Candida kept ringing in my head as the name of a yeast infection. I guess this sums it up because this book had absolutely NO plot. Candida was weak, the guy had no backbone and basically I really can't understand why the Harlequin Romance went to the expense of printing this book. It took me days to wade through what should have only taken a couple of hours because boredom kept setting in. It does not hold your attention and I kept wishing that it would simply go away. As I had paid for the book, I felt obligated to finish it.

1.0 out of 5 stars You know it's bad when you'd rather do homework..., March 22, 2010
This review is from: The British Billionaire Affair (Harlequin Presents Extra) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of the most BORING books I have ever read. Neither the heroine nor hero is appealing at all. Candida seems petty, holding failure years ago over Max while he is domineering and borders on rude. I only made it to the 6th chapter before I gave up just because it had absolutely no passion at all!

2.0 out of 5 stars A complete big HELL NO, March 27, 2009

The story is boring, passionless and confusing at times. Also frequently annoying. It doesn't flow together like most great books making it horrible.

BAD POINTS OF THIS BOOK:
1. Max (Main Male lead) is pushy, not very "manly"..doesn't sound sexy at all during book. His thoughts which come up infrequently through the book are confusing, making me think that there are huge bits that the author may have been thinking about but didn't write so we're left with a..Where the hell did that come from?
2. Candida (Leading Lady) the name. Full Stop. "Candida" Do i have to say more? And her Nick name which wasn't used all that much...CANDY!
3. Story kind of popped up new segments in random places. Like they wrote out bits of the story here and there and than stuck them together. There wasn't a flow!! Some bits should have seriously been reread and re-edited because they seriously did not make sense..
4. Unappealling start to the story, its just like "read read...when is the good part coming?" Well i'll save you some time and tell you it never does.
5. OMG there is seriously no passion in the story. Its cold and unappealing the scenes where it could have become a BIT juicy were boring and like.."blah blah blah"
6. The best part about the book was the Dog, Ella.
7. Short boring conversations. No heated fights, no brilliant exits of passion. There were 2 that had potential unfortunetly author/editor chose to end the fights with him asking if he gets coffee and her going "Oh of course" like she had forgotten her manners. SERIOUSLY!! WTF?! They just had a fight and she is stumbling off to get him coffee because he had asked for some.
8. I wasted 2 hrs of my time reading this book.

This book was seriously boring, passionless, a big regret, had potential in bits but fell flat. Not very imaginative and a misleading title. The title promises things that the story destroys and lies. Lol...Bit of an exaggeration but seriously...

1.0 out of 5 stars weak characters/weak plot, October 13, 2011

Oh my, where do I begin? First, Candida had no backbone. She allows Max to call all the shots. Every time she says no to something, he overrides her decision. I couldn't believe this character was supposed to be 29. As for Max, he was just plain boring.

Secondly, where is the romance? The characters don't seem affectionate at all throughout the entire book.

The whole premise is ridiculous. If every writer who got a bad review stopped writing because of it, there would be fewer books on my bookshelf. I will need to read more from this author to see if her wrote gets better.

Instead, the writer gives us the story of a relationship from BOTH perspectives.

Unusally, the heorine was not sickly sweet and willing to forgive all whenever the hero batted his eyes at her. She was a real person with her own dreams, prejudices and hang ups.

Loved it. I will look forward to reading more books by this writer.

(I gave it only four stars because the ending seemed a little rushed).
