3.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect miracles., February 24, 2008
As the previous reviewer noted, some tracks are mono - too many of them. "In the Summertime" is a true, discreet 5.1 mix. The rest, when not mono, are just ambient effects routed to the surround channels. A few tracks, such as "Silence Is Golden" are definitely worthwhile ambient 5.1 mixes. However, one could achieve similar results by synthesizing the surround effects with something like Pro Logic IIx or Logic 7. I should have known better than to expect miracles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to the British Invasion, September 13, 2007
By Gary L. Stanley (Silver Spring, MD United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Although there are a couple of tracks on this disc that I'd never heard of, the rest of them are excellent respresentations of the British style in the mid-60s.

My favorite tracks are by the Tremeloes and Marmalade, whose 'Reflections Of My Life' sounds magical in this format with discete 5 channels and a very concrete LFE channel that really pumps out the bass. The DVD-Audio tracks with 96 kHz resolution allow you to hear nuances in the music that you could never hear back in the 60s over your transistor radio! In fact, Mungo Jerry's 'In The Summertime' has a part where you can hear traffic in the background. I was listening in the van at the time, and thought the sound was really coming from outside. ;o)

The only reason this disc does not get 5 stars is that some of the tracks, although in high-resolution, do not sound like they have really been remastered into 5.1 surround as advertised. For example, 'Pictures of Matchstick Men' seems to me to be in MONO. Very clear mono, but MONO.

All in all, it's still a very worthwhile purchase with the minor quibble above.
