5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent, Meticulous and Unique, November 4, 2011
This review is from: British Delft at Williamsburg (Williamsburg Decorative Arts) (Hardcover)
"Delft" refers to ceramics covered with a lead glaze rendered opaque by the addition of ti oxide, produced in England from the sixteenth century. The remarkable collection of British delft assembled by Colonial Williamsburg has no equivalent anywhere in the world, and with this oversized volume you may review its contents. Meticulously cataloged by curator John C. Adams, hundreds of pieces are skillfully photographed, described and related to archaeological fragments excavated in Virginia's colonial capital and nearby. Period utilization of the pieces, contemporary names, and comparisons with other pieces in other collections are frequently included. All in all, this is a work of scholarship valuable to the collector, historian and lover of fine things.
