5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting !, July 3, 2000

Do not pass go! Do not collect $200. Just stop what you are doing and buy this CD now! I took a chance on buying this CD after reading favorable revues and recommendations. I am not disappointed and am quite happy I took the chance. The orchestral arrangements are haunting and chilling! Usually, I don't like cover versions but Ann Wilson brings new life to Stairway to Heaven, Paul Rodgers pays a moving tribute to the Beatles and Thelma Houston makes Ruby Tuesday a song all her own. The CD gets your attention right from the beginning with the powerful Kashmir as sincerely done by Ann Wilson and Roger Daltry. There is only one weak moment and that is Roger Daltry attempting to sing Let It Be. However, even that is not a total failure. The artwork of Peter Max is just an extra added plus when you buy this - and you should buy this!

5.0 out of 5 stars What old Rockers can still do best., February 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: British Rock Symphony (Audio CD)
I bought this based on the performer's list alone. And there is a very listenable marriage between the London Orchestra and classic rock. The one song that should've have been done by someone else here was Kasmir. Wilson and Daltry are excellent performers but it was pretty obvious that 1. They didn't record together. Many of the vocals were done separately but this was obvious and 2. Their vocal competition on the big notes was fairly unbearable. I was rather hoping for a personal interpretation which was achieved successfully on all other cuts. And especially good were the little differences i.e. Nigel's violin weeping. Ann Wilson did an excellent rendition of Stairway. Alice Cooper and Tommy Shaw were perfect choices for #10 Celebration Suite. For me, the best of it was Paul Rodgers, who is entitled to interpret anyone, and does so here with obvious respect to the original writers. He has the best vocals period. A note should be made on Thelma Houston, who was putting out some excellent music long before her niece Whitney was, including an 80's album where she did a fine version of "Got to Get you into My Life". A nice addition to any collection. The corny looking cover isn't so corny after you open it up and see that Peter Max is still a working man.
