Classic... vintage Priest,
By
This review is from: British Steel: 30th Anniversary Edition (Audio CD)
I give this cd 5 stars, in spite of the fact that there are definitely reasons to be disappointed. As others have pointed out, there is nothing new on the cd. It is the same remastered cd that was released several years ago, with the same bonus tracks. I also agree... it would have been nice to see some additional bonus material, especially for those of us who already bought the remastered cd when it first came out.
On the other hand... I have always been a HUGE fan of the song "STEELER." It rocks on the original album version, and anyone who knows the song, knows that the last 2 minutes are basically a blistering guitar solo. It sounds dated on the cd, of course (and Dave Holland's mediocre drumming doesn't help), but i have ALWAYS thought it could be updated and be a great cover for some band... or better yet, by Priest, with Scott Travis and double-bass drums! Until the 30th anniversary concert, i never thought it would happen. But this song alone is worth the price of purchase. Listen to the live version in Dolby digital surround... loud enough to piss off the neighbors, and with a good subwoofer. You'll see why it's worth the price, and why it should be a song that is MUCH more appreciated than it ever was. An underappreciated song, but a true Priest classic.

Judas Priest At Their Finest!!!!!,

Without a shadow of a doubt do i guarantee that you will not regret this purchase. This is a classic piece of Judas Priest and heavy metal history and i was fortunate enough to see them live during their summer British Steel tour. From beginning to end this concert will rock your socks off. I am truely amazed at how much better Judas Priest seem to sound as the years continue to go by. You get the remastered British Steel album which sounds very good and you get the live DVD which is great. The DVD is filled with 16 explosive live music that'll keep you rocking till the dawn. Judas Priest sound so amazing live, that if i can, I would Strongly reccomend that you pick up the 3 Disc Deluxe version of the British Steel pack. I can tell you that i have not regreted getting the live CD and they just sound amazing when you blast the music. The Priest truly sound amazing and there are no signs of the priest stopping and i cannot for next years priest tour and who isn't to say that we wont be seeing remakes of other albums the priest has made.

This review is from: British Steel: 30th Anniversary Edition (Audio CD)
The whole package is unbelievable, but my only concern is that I could not play the Audio CD in any of my player/PC. Looks like the CD data is in a zipped format. If anyone knows what to be done to have this CD functional, do let me know!!!Selva

I love Priest and I love this cd/dvd. Only thing wrong with it in my opinion is all the camera movement in the opening song on the dvd. Totally ruins it (the first tune). Why do people that edit metal shows think that having 10 camera shots in 5 seconds is exciting? It's not. I'd rather be able to focus on the guys in the band for at least a few seconds at a time. Anyway, having said that, great performance!

I can't recommend this special edition enough. If you already own British Steel (and you should) this new edition is great only because of the DVD. If you don't have this classic album in your collection, what are you waiting for???
This editon comes in a double jewelled CD case. The booklet has this new bloody cover. Inside you have the original cover design, plus new pictures of the band (including Mr. Scott Travis, that was not the drummer on the original recording) and a lot of liner notes. The first CD the is same as the remastered edition of British Steel that were released some years ago, including the new previously unrelease tracks. There's nothing different here, only that British Steel is maybe one of the most classic metal albums ever. Tracks like Rapid Fire, Metal Gods, Grinder, Breaking The Law, Living After Midnight, United, are all classic Priest tunes that they keep on playing alive until today. The crown jewel of this package is the live DVD where the current line up (Rob Halford, KK Downing, Glen Tipton, Ian Hill and Scott Travis) plays the whole album plus a bunch of bonus songs. The DVD is fantastic, great sound and great video quality. It's great to see those guys playing alive all those great songs as if they were really fresh. In some ways I think they are. British Steel 30th Anniversary Edition is a great special edition of a classic metal masterpiece. Highly recommended!!!

Whats to be said about this album is that its pinnacle in metal.
I first got into the priest during Unleashed In The East, listening to it off a old Radio station in Tacoma Washington 106 on my crappy radio, then getting into Hell Bent For Leather, then British Steel was an amazing work of Art. The additional DVD is amazing in its suround sound brilliance.

I picked this up because I didn't have this masterpiece on CD (I know, crazy) and liked that it was remastered. I didn't even care about the DVD. I just listened to the CD and was floored. It sounds so good that I was sure it must have been re-recorded. This is probably how good it sounded coming out of the studio monitors in 1980. I learned how to play rock guitar by playing along with this album. A pure metal classic. Can't believe I could have had it in 2001.

Judas Priest's British Steel is a classic metal album. Digitally remastered sounds great and the DVD concert does justice to the importance this album occupies in metal history. Thanks Amazon for a great product and excellent service/delivery.

rubber hits the road again for priest,
This review is from: British Steel: 30th Anniversary Edition (Audio CD)
bought for the dvd, wasnt disapointed. a little quiet for me, ran it on(pc) VLC free media player, at 200% volume, with the equalizer, much better for my headphones. also using 40' hdtv as monitor, VLC is pretty good, overall. blu-ray would be better.
stripped down stage, right in yer face with 'rapid fire', Priest never sounded better. and never stops. the deeper tunes are my favorite too see, roots of power metal, performed flawlessly. is it too early to celebrate the release of painkiller? i want painkiller end to end live. |
